Review: The Lovebirds

Image
Review: The Lovebirds Ok, this is probably the second Netflix Rom-Com that I've reviewed! Technically, this movie was supposed to be released in theaters last month but it had to be pulled from release due to the Pandemic. This movie follows a couple named Jibran & Leilani played by Kumail Nanjiani and Issa Rae. Just as when they're both about to break up they get unintentionally embroiled in a bizarre murder mystery involving a sex cult. As they both solve this case, they figure out how they, and their relationship will survive the night. I love the chemistry between these leads they are both funny and very successful comedic actors. Coincidentally, they're both in HBO comedy shows. Kumail was in Silicon Valley while Issa Rae plays the lead protagonist in Insecure. If you haven't watched Insecure yet, then get on it. IT'S GREAT TV. Not only is the humor great, but the opening sequence was masterfully well-done and then it's cut them both four...

Review: The Half of It

Review: The Half of It Alice Wu's The Half of It--now among one of the many Netflix Rom-Coms on the streaming site--is a sweet, complex and hilarious romp reminiscent of a story by Edmond Rostand(the Cyrano de Bergerac guy) and one of the best movies of this year while our country is going through a global catastrophe. This is the story of a young Asian teen girl named Ellie Chu, who has no friends who writes essays for students and works in a train station for a living while living her father. Her fellow school-mate Paul Munsky recruits Ellie to write a letter to Aster Flores, who Ellie's secretly in love with. Naturally, this leads to plenty of rom-com cliches. Leah Lewis, Daniel Deimer and Alexxis Lemire all gave memorable performances and I really loved the stop-motion animated opening sequence, which is also a retelling of Plato's Symposium. It was the most beautiful sequence I've ever seen and it had one of the most ambiguous endings ever. If I have...

Every Marvel Cinematic Universe movie ranked from Worst to Best

Every Marvel Cinematic Universe movie ranked from Worst to Best Hello everybody, I am Santiago Brion and I will be ranking every single movie in the biggest franchise in the world, the Marvel cinematic Universe. A franchise spanning an entire decade, the MCU has given us great movies with memorable characters and it shows no signs of slowing down. There are minor spoilers in this blog spot, so... Spoiler alert. Alright, let's get to it. 23. Thor: The Dark World Arguably the MCU's lowest point in the franchise, Thor: The Dark World is an unworthy follow-up to the debut feature of one Marvel Comic's iconic characters. For starters, the villain , Malekith the Dark Elf was so one-dimensional and Thor and Jane's relationship didn't have enough depth. Plus, Dr. Selvig had underwear for the entirety of the film and the film itself failed to have any comedic effect from The Avengers. It did however have impressive fighting sequences but for the...

All Star Wars movies ranked

Star Wars Movies: Ranked from Worst to Best Hello, Everybody and welcome to my first ranking blog post where I rank all of my favorite movies from worst to best. Growing up I was surrounded by everything Star Wars and I didn't become invested until I was 12 years old, and since then I've been a huge Star Wars fan! Since that today is May the 4th be with you, I'd like to show my biased opinion on all things Star Wars movies. And So, without further ado, here's my ranking of all of the movies in the franchise. 12. Star Wars: Episode I- The Phantom Menace It’s pretty obvious why I ranked this movie so low and here’s why. For starters, it’s awful. The dialogue is really bad, the visual effects are soo cringed, it has bad acting (all due respect to Liam Neeson and Ewan McGregor), and it was just soo boring! At least we got Darth Maul. Now, it could’ve been better if it had practical effects or that George Lucas wouldn’t have creative control ...

Review: Extraction

Image
Review: Extraction Following the success of both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, Joe & Anthony Russo have produced a non-stop action thrill ride on Netflix. This. Is. Extraction. It's about a black ops mercenary named Tyler Rake (played by Chris Hemsworth) who's hired to save the kidnapped son of a incarcerated Indian crime boss in Bangladesh. The job becomes complicated when they're surrounded by weapons dealers, drug traffickers, soldiers and cops who work for the rival boss. With nothing to lose, Rake must protect the kid in an otherwise deadly and doomed mission in a murky underworld. Sam Hargrave, who is a stunt coordinator for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, directed this awesome and heart pounding action thriller, Chris Hemsworth gave arguably his best performance of his career and his character will be remembered for years to come and Rudhrasksh Jaiswal was really believable as Ovi, the kidnapped son. I really loved the action seque...

Review: The Willoughbys

Review: The Willoughbys My fellow readers, for those of you stuck in quarantine, today I watched arguably the greatest animated film to ever come out on Netflix, The Willoughbys. Based on Lois Lowry's book of the same name, it tells the story of 4 children, Tim, Jane and two twins named Barnaby. (I'm not kidding, their both named Barnaby it's creepy but also so hilarious) living in a home with godawful who treat them like trash. While being punished and kicked out off their home, they see a travel agency and come up with a solution to get rid of their parents and become orphans. While they're home alone, a nanny, voiced by the always hilarious Maya Rudolph, comes into their lives and takes care of them and they see her as their forever caretaker, well, except Tim. But he eventually warms up to her. When the Department of Orphan Services arrives, the kids realize that they've made a mistake by sending them away and they must find them so that they won...

Why Roma should've won Best Picture at the Oscars instead of Green Book: Over the years, The Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts & Sciences has given awards for Best Picture to classic films like Rocky, Casablanca, Gone with the Wind, Ben-Hur, West Side Story, The Godfather Parts I & II, Annie Hall, Lawrence of Arabia, Platoon, Rain Man, Forrest Gump, Gladiator, No Country for Old Men and Titanic. Other classic films like GoodFellas, Saving Private Ryan, The Color Purple, Raging Bull, Fargo, Tootsie, The Social Network and Mary Poppins were robbed of their Best Picture awards.
