Santi's Film & TV Talks

Hi, Everybody! Today, I'm going to be talking about the movies that have won Best Picture at the Academy Awards against movies that were so much better. These movies aren't necessarily bad, it's just that these movies didn't deserve the title of Best Picture. 20. American Beauty Ok, at the time American Beauty was celebrated for its comedy, Sam Mendes' direction and Kevin Spacey's performance. The film won Best Picture in 2000 against The Cider House Rules, The Sixth Sense, The Insider and The Green Mile. Given the fact that Spacey's a real-life predator, I haven't looked at this movie the same way again! It's just very cringe watching a middle-aged man trying to be in a relationship with his daughter's friend! The true Best Picture was indeed The Green Mile. 19.  Kramer vs. Kramer According to The Academy, the best movie of 1979 was Kramer vs. Kramer, a drama film starring Dustin Hoffman and Meryl Streep who are fighting custody for their kid. W...

Hey, Everybody! The long-awaited Mortal Combat reboot movie finally came out in theaters and on HBO Max. I finally got to stepped foot in a theater in a year and it just so surreal to see a movie in public.  Mortal Combat(2021) stars Lewis Tan, Jessica McNamee, Mehcad Brooks, Ludi Lin, Joe Taslim, Hiroyuki Sanada, Sisi Stringer, Elisa Cadwell, Josh Lawson, Tadanobu Asano, Ng Chin Han, Max Huang, Laura Brent, Matilda Kimber, Nathan Jones and Daniel Nelson and is directed by Simon McQuoid and produced by James Wan. For starters, I went into this movie for the characters from the video game franchise that In love like Scorpion, Jax, Sub-Zero, Sonya Blade, Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Kano, Mileena and Raiden. But I was TOTALLY fine that Johnny Cage wasn't it, we're getting him in the sequel anyway(if it gets announced). The film follows an original character in the form of Lewis Tan's character, Cole Young who is an MMA fighter looking for his wife and daughter. Cole possesses the dr...

Hi, Everybody! Today I did a list of every horror movie from each year. From 2000 all the way to 2020. These movies are based on my personal opinion, so please don't be mad at me that your favorite movie wasn't on here. Ok, here's the list. 2000: Final Destination The new millennium started off with a bang with Final Destination, a movie about a teen who has a premonition of a plane explosion and Alex and his classmates survive. When the figurative grim reaper comes knocking on their door however, Alex has to fight to escape his fate. While it was hated by critics for its mediocrity, horror buffs have praised it for its memorable death scenes and was the launching point for actor Sean William Scott. 2001: The Devil's Backbone 2001 was a great year for horror. Anthony Hopkins came back as Hannibal Lector in Hannibal, Bill Paxton made his directorial debut with Frailty, there was the cult classic, Jeepers Creepers, the Japanese Horror classic, Pulse and not to mention The...

Hi, Everybody! Since that it is finally Oscar week, I am going to highlight the highs and lows from The Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts & Sciences. In this post, I will be talking about the major disappointments and decisions that were made by the Academy and these aren't really the worst decisions ever made, it's just that it didn't meet the expectations from movie buffs. Alright, here's the list. 15. Bohemian Rhapsody wins Best Editing Bohemian Rhapsody was an average music biopic if you didn't care about the facts of Freddie Mercury not present in the film such as Freddie's homosexuality and his AIDs diagnosis. But, that's beside the point, the film's editing wasn't exactly the best but it was somehow won an Academy Award. But you know what movies had the best editing in 2018? The Favourite and BlacKkKlansman! 14. Peter O' Toole not winning Best Actor Peter O' Toole was one of the greatest actors of the 20th Century! Besides winning a...

Hello, Everybody! I've just watched the long-awaited cinematic event, Godzilla vs. Kong.  It takes place after the events of Godzilla: King of the Monsters and 40 years after Kong: Skull Island and is the third film in WB/Legendary's Monterverse. It follows a group of scientists who take King Kong to his true home in Hollow Earth where other monsters reside. Along for the ride is a young girl named Jia, an orphaned girl with a strong bond to the powerful ape. However, they end up in the path of Godzilla and an epic clash ensues.  Godzilla vs. Kong stars Rebecca Hall, Alexander Skarsgård, Millie Bobby Brown, Julien Dennison, Brian Tyree Henry, Kyle Chandler, Eiza Gonzalez, Demián Bichir and Shun Oguri and is directed by Adam Wingard and is composed by Junkie XL. If you've come for Kaiju battles rather than human drama, you're in the right place. Godzilla vs. Kong has EVERYTHING you'd want in a Monster action film, epic fights and gorgeous visual effects. I personal...

Hi, Everybody! So... last week Zack Snyder's original vision of Justice League finally came out on HBO Max. A 4-hour superhero epic that was nothing short of brilliant! It was long time coming and I never thought that this film would never see the light of day. Here is the story of Zack Snyder's Justice League. Superhero movies based on DC Comics dates all the way back to 1966 with Batman, well before that, there was 1943's Batman, the first live-action Batman movie. At the time, the DC Comics brand wasn't owned by Warner Bros. until the 1970s-1980s. The first live-action Superman came out in 1978 with the a movie of the same name which made moviegoers believe that Christopher Reeve can fly, live-action Wonder Woman came out in 1975, live-action Flash(technically it's Jay Gerrick and not Barry Allen) in 1990 and Aquaman didn't make his first live-action until 2001 with an appearance in the Superman origins TV Show, Smallville and Barry Allen didn't make his ...

Hi, Everybody! Today, I reviewed Cherry, an Apple Original Film that is now streaming today! From playing our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man to playing heroin addict, Nico Walker, Tom Holland has proven to be a capable and versatile actor, proving himself to be a mature performer.  Cherry stars Tom Holland, Ciara Bravo, Jack Reynor, Michael Rispoli, Jeff Wahlberg, Forrest Goodluck, Michael Gandolfini and Kyle Harvey and is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo and is based on Nico's book of the same name. The movie follows the life of Nico Walker, a young man who enlists in the army and afterwards gets addicted to opioids due to his PTSD and robs banks to cope with his addiction.  Now, both Joe and Anthony have become well-known directing movies within the MCU like Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Civil War, Infinity War and Endgame and they both chose to direct and produce a biographical drama, which I won't argue against since that they are respectable directors but...
