Most Anticipated Movies of 2021

Hello, Everybody! It has been roughly... 13 days since I've posted my last blog post because I was writing a bunch of ideas and I have a lot and I have a couple of drafts that I still need to get back to. Since that we're halfway through the year and that we won't get to see any of these big movies that were supposed to come out this year, I made a list of all of the movies that I can't wait to see! This movie's release dates will most likely subject to change and I'll probably update it after any of these movie's dates have been pushed back by another year. Ok, here's the list.

25. Gucci

Although Ridley Scott's next movie is The Last Duel, there will also be another movie of his that's coming next year. The movie is a biopic about Patrizia Reggiani(who will be played by Lady Gaga), the ex-wife of Maurizio Gucci who was tried and convicted for orchestrating an assassination of him and served 18 years in prison before being let out in 2016. The movie will also star Adam Driver, Jared Leto, Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Jack Huston and Reeve Carney. Considering that Scott's last film, All the Money in the World was a critical success, this one will hopefully be another knockout for the veteran filmmaker.

24. The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent

This is a movie starring Nicolas Cage, who's playing being well... Nicolas Cage. What will he do in the movie? Well... he's going to take down a cartel boss and rescue the presidential candidate's daughter. This will definitely the most Cage-iest movie ever and I can't wait to bask in all of it's holy glory.

23. Bob's Burgers: The Movie

Yup. The Belchers are officially have their own movie! While the plot has yet to be revealed, lets just say that this quirky family will have their own musical. Yes, it's a musical. Originally scheduled for this year's July release, it was pushed back a year and will now be released on April 9th, 2021. Creator Loren Bouchard is directing and he has revealed that every itch from the sitcom will be scratched while also be appealing to new audiences and it would Louise and her night light, Kuchi Kopi inside a fantasy world as a subplot. Now, if only someone can convince Seth McFarlane to make a Family Guy movie next.

22. A Quiet Place: Part II

Wow. Ok. I never thought that this movie would be on this list due to the fact that this was supposed to be released this year. The sequel to the hit 2018 horror flick was about to go straight to theaters in roughly 1 week until the entire country was declared having a pandemic. In today's world, it feels like we're in the exact situation similar to The Abbott Family. April 23rd may take longer, but I can only hope that this sequel will live up to its predecessor.

21. Uncharted

This movie based on the hit PlayStation exclusive franchise from Naughty Dog of the same name has been production hell for almost a decade and hopefully the July 16th release date will stick. Ruben Fleischer is directing while Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg will play the role of Nathan Drake and James Sullivan respectively and the movie will take a slight inspiration from Uncharted 4: A Thief's End.

20. Luca

This recently announced Pixar movie is a coming-of-age story centering on the titular character, who is based on the movie's director, Enrico Casarosa. It takes place at the Italian Riviera where Luca befriends a. sea monster who is disguised as a human. It will also be released on June 18th, 2021.(MY BIRTHDAY!!)

19. In the Heights

Sing it with me now! "In the Heights"! Originally set for a summer 2020 release, it will now be released on June 18th, 2021. For those of you who are not familiar with In the Heights, Lin-Manuel Miranda or Musicals for that matter, it takes place in a Dominican-American neighborhood of Washington Heights in New York City over the course of three days. It stars Anthony Ramos, Corey Hawkins, Stephanie Beatriz, Melissa Barrera, Olga Merediz, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Gregory Diaz IV, Dascha Polanco and Jimmy Smits.

18. Last Night in Soho

Edgar Wright is known for stylish approach to comedy, but never has he ever made a horror movie in his life. Taking inspiration from Don't Look Now and Repulsion, the movie will follow a young girl who loves fashion and somehow ends up in 1960s London where she encounters her idol. Where she is, isn't what it seems as time to starts to fall apart with shady consequences. I really can't wait to see what he directed from his very sleeve because I am a huge fan of Edgar Wright! 

17. Halloween Kills

Man, I really am devastated that I won't be seeing this one this year. Taking place right after Halloween 2018, Laurie, Allyson and Karen escape from Michael Myers' clutches and try to get away from him as much as possible. David Gordon Green returned to direct while Jamie Lee Curtis has reprised her iconic role.

16. Elvis

Finally! A Hollywood Biopic about Elvis Presley! Austin Butler will play strap on the iconic wardrobe, Tom Hanks will play The Colonel, Olivia DeJonge of "The Society" fame will play Priscilla Presley and Maggie Gyllenhaal and Rufus Sewell will play Gladys and Vernon Presley and Baz Luhrman is set to direct! I'm really really excited for this!

15. Raya and the Last Dragon

This will be the first Disney-Animated film since Mulan that represents Asian culture! Taking place in a mysterious land called Kumandra, a warrior named Raya seeks for the last dragon, who is voiced by none other than Awkwafina! Originally set for a late 2020 release, it will now be released on March 12th, 2021.

14. Black Adam

This DC solo project has been in production for quite some time and it is finally coming out in December 2021. Dwayne Johnson plays the nemesis of Shazam, but before he was his nemesis, he was a corrupted being who overthrew it's city's rulers and was imprisoned for it for 5,000 years. Jaume Collet-Sera is directing and it will reportedly follow up Shazam: Fury of the Gods and it will introduce Doctor Fate and the Justice Society of America.

13. Sherlock Holmes 3

A third movie in Robert Downey Jr.'s Sherlock Holmes series is finally happening! Jude Law will also return as Dr. Watson while Guy Ritchie will unfortunately not return to direct, Dexter Fletcher who previously directed Eddie the Eagle and Rocketman will direct. Originally scheduled for a Holiday 2020 release, it will now be released on December 22nd, 2021.

12. Sing 2

Sing was an animated musical comedy from Illumination Entertainment about a Koala Bear, who was voiced by Matthew McConaughey, who puts on a singing competition to save his theater, it featured more than 60 popular songs and original ones. The movie became a moderate success and a sequel was inevitable. Reese Witherspoon, Taron Egerton, Seth McFarlane, Scarlett Johansson, Nick Kroll and Tori Kelley are all returning to reprise their roles while Chelsea Peretti of Brooklyn Nine-Nine fame will join the voice cast.

11. Mission:Impossible 7

Tom Cruise is set to return as Ethan Hunt in this now iconic action spy franchise! The last movie, Fallout is the best Mission:Impossible movie to date and is considered to be one of the greatest action movies of all time. I'm soo looking forward to see how Christopher McQuarrie is going to live up its next installment. Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg and Rebecca Ferguson are back in their roles while Vanessa Kirby reprises the role of Alanna Mitsopolis. Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff and Shea Whigham are cast in undisclosed roles while Esai Morales will play the movie's antagonist.

10. Morbius

The next intsallment in Sony's Marvel Universe of Spidey's villains is Morbius starring Jared Leto. Playing the role of Dr. Michael Morbius, a scientist with a rare blood disease tries a dangerous cure that gives him the form of vampirism. After Jared Leto's disastrous portrayal of The Joker in Suicide Squad, I really hope that he pulls off the role of Morbius. The movie will also star Matt Smith, who plays the film's villain, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris and an appearance of Michael Keaton as Adrian Toomes/Vulture. If that is the case, this movie universe is connected to the MCU. Daniel Espinosa, who previously directed the sci-fi horror, Life, is the director. It was supposed to be released on July 10th, 2020, but now it will be released on March 19th, 2021 so I hope that the wait will be worth it.

9. Ghostbusters: Afterlife

After the disaster that was 2016's Ghostbusters, I really though that the franchise was done for until another installment was announced with Jason Reitman(who is original director, Ivan Reitman's son) as writer/director and Ivan as Producer, I got optimistic. The movie will star Finn Wolfhard and McKenna Grace as Egon Spengler's grandchildren, Trevor and Phoebe who move to Egon's farm in Summerville, Oklahoma with their mother. When the town experiences mysterious earthquakes, they discover their family's link to the original ghostbusters including the Ecto-1. The movie will also star Carrie Coon and Paul Rudd, while Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and Sigourney Weaver will return to their iconic roles. I was looking forward to seeing this movie this summer but then COVID happened but now I gotta wait until March 5th.

8. Mortal Kombat

This video game movie that I'm super hyped about! It will reboot of the Mortal Kombat movie franchise and a faithful adaptation to the iconic video game franchise! With James Wan as producer and the pitch-perfect all-star cast who are perfect to play the characters with Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion and Ludi Lin as Sub-Zero! Oh! And it will have an R-rating! Can't even express how excited I am and I can't wait for January 15th!

7. The Eternals

When Black Widow was announced a new release date of November 6th, all of the Phase 4 movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe have all changed their release dates including The Eternals which will now be released on November 5th. Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, the Eternals are an immortal alien race who were created by the Celestials who have lived on Earth for more than 7,000 years. After an unexpected tragedy, they all reunite to protect humanity from their evil counterparts, the Deviants. I'm seeing this movie just because of the cast which consists of Richard Madden, Gemma Chan, Salma Hayek,  Kumail Nanjiani, Lauren Ridloff, Brian Tyree Henry, Lia McHugh, Don Lee, Barry Keoghan, Angelina Jolie and Kit Harrington. YES! Jon Snow is joining the MCU, guys! 

6. F9

Bro. I was really pumped to see F9 this year! The trailer was soo dope! With John Cena playing the role of Dom's estranged brother while the character of Han who was thought to be dead in Tokyo Drift has returned! Unfortunately, the next installment of the Fast & Furious franchise will now be released next year on May 28th, 2021. Charlize Theron will return as Cipher from Fate of the Furious, most of the cast will return minus Dwayne Johnson will also return, while Jordan Brewster will return as Mia Toretto.

5. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

The third movie of the next Phase of the MCU is a Martial Arts movie with inspiration from the classic Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan movies. Like how Black Panther had African representation, Shang-Chi will be a comic book movie surrounding Asian cultures. Simu Liu is playing the titular comic book character while Awkwafina and Michelle Yeoh are cast in undisclosed roles and Tony Leung will play the REAL Mandarin! The movie will reportedly connect to the Ten Rings terrorist organization from the Iron Man movies.

4. The Suicide Squad

While 2016's Suicide Squad was a huge critical dud, it was a financial success that greenlit a sequel with many rumors that directors like Mel Gibson were signed on. While not really a sequel, it will be a soft-reboot with James Gunn as director. It has the most impressive cast ever with Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, Viola Davis and Joel Kinnaman reprising their roles as Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, Amanda Waller and Rick Flag repsectively with new cast members like Idris Elba, John Cena, Peter Capaldi, Alice Braga, Pete Davidson, David Dastmalchian, Michael Rooker, Taika Waititi, Nathan Fillion, Storm Reid, Daniel Melchior, Steve Agee, Sean Gunn and Flula Borg! OHH MAN!!! It will take inspiration from the classic war movie, The Dirty Dozen, with the old and new members of the squad to liberate a South American country. This one will be awesome!! And I can't wait until August 6th! Thank god that the release date wasn't changed! Hope I don't jinx that. Just from the look of the Behind-the-Scenes trailer which debuted at DC FanDome, this will be James Gunn's biggest movie yet!

3. Godzilla vs. Kong

The Kaiju vs. Ape fight that I need in my life rn! The many release date changes have made it impossible for it to be released but I have fate that it will be soo awesome. Hopefully it won't focus on the human characters that much and will focus more on Godzilla and King Kong. Adam Wingard will direct while Millie Bobby Brown will return as Madison.

2. MCU Spider-Man 3

After that mid-credits scene from Far from Home, I just had to put this one on the number 2 spot. It will definitely be about the repercussions from Spider-Man's real identity. I'm just waiting for its official title. Jon Watts will return to direct, while Joel Kinnaman is rumored to play Kraven the Hunter, while other villains like Adrian Toomes might return. I just hope Kinnaman will play Kraven because I think it's a good choice, instead of having him be Russian/African, he'll be Swedish/African. December 17th, 2021 can't come soon enough!!

1. Dune

A faithful adaptation of Frank Herbert's groundbreaking sci-fi novel will finally hit the big screen, only... it was supposed to be released on Christmas, but now it'll be released on October 1st, 2021, taking The Batman's original spot. For those of you who don't know the story. This is the story of the Atreides family who are now the stewards of the planet Arrakis, the source of a very valuable substance of the universe called "the spice", a drug that extends human life and Paul and her mother Jessica get help from the Fremen, the natives the desert planet to help them get the spice before enemies can take it for themselves. While the movie is no longer the biggest movie of 2020, it'll now dominate 2021 and is now one of the biggest sci-fi movies of the decade and I CAN'T WAIT TO WATCH IT!
