The Greatest Animated Films of All Time

The Greatest Animated Movies of All Time

Hey, Everybody! I'm Santiago Brion and I'm giving you guys my list of THE BEST ANIMATED MOVIES EVER MADE!! Not only do I love movies, I also loved animation and I consider kids movies an important part of cinema. These animated movies prove that not all of them are for kids. This is not a ranking. All of these movies are masterpieces in their own right. So don't be mad if your favorite animated movie is in its lowest number.
Ok. Here's the list.

50. Zootopia

In a world where Predator and Prey live in harmony, a rabbit named Judy Hopps pursues the career of being a cop to make a difference in Zootopia, a modern day animal metropolis. She learns how tough it is to enforce the law. Determined to prove herself, Judy seizes the opportunity to solve a Missing Animals case involving a missing otter. She's forced to work with a con-artist fox named Nick Wilde eventually they warm up to each other and eventually uncover a conspiracy that threatens all of the animals' way of life.
Esquisite and perfectly detailed animation, voice acting from the likes of Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, Octavia Spencer, Idris Elba, J.K. Simmons, Jenny Slate, Alan Tudyk and Nate Torrence, an original song from Shakira and biting(no pun intended) commentary on racism and xenophobia makes this a perfect movie for adults and children. Unlike many animated movies, this one had a lot of heart and its portrayal of animals in human settings is hilarious and had so many adult references including Breaking Bad and The Godfather and it also had the GREATEST and most funniest Disney joke ever. "Life isn't some musical where you sing a little song and your magical insipid dreams come true, so let it go!"
This is one of my favorite movies ever!

49. Ratatouille

Another movie that won an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and one of Pixar's best films, this is the story of a rat named Remy, who's voiced by comedian, Patton Oswalt who dreams of becoming a chef in Paris.
This is one of those movies that made kids wish that they would go to Paris.
It's beautifully animated(the food looked soo real!!)and perfectly scored(I literally downloaded the score on Spotify)by Michael Giacchino. This is Brad Bird's second feature film at Pixar Animation Studios. This was one of my favorite movies growing up as a kid. I remembered watching this for a school trip, I think.

48. Fantastic Mr. Fox

This isn't just an animated movie, it's A MOVIE. It's so perfectly framed, directed and so well done and Wes Anderson is one of my favorite directors! He can literally make any genre film including comedies, dramas, coming-of-age films and animated films.
It featured an all-star cast including George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Jason Schwartzman, Willem Dafoe, Owen Wilson and Bill Murray.
Based on the book by Roald Dahl of the same name, this is the story of Mr. Fox who has been living with his wife and son for 12 years. He seizes the opportunity to buy a tree to live in, which is in a human farm neighborhood, Boggis, Bunce and Bean. Not only does he endanger his family, he also endangers his fellow friends. When they're all forced underground, Fox must resort to his natural craftiness to rise above the opposition.
Beautifully animated and directed and perfectly scored by Alexandre Desplat and nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature(the award was given to Up.) and Best Original Score.
I love this movie and I never get tired of it!

47. The Last: Naruto the Movie

Ok, I literally could've picked any Naruto Shipudden movie! But I had to go with The Last just because I really loved it.
Not only do I love movies, I also love Anime!
This is the story of a young kid with no friends because he basically has a fox demon living inside of him and also has a lifelong goal to become the Hokage, the leader of The Village Hidden in the Leaves. He grows up to become a bad-ass ninja and fights the Akatsuki, an evil organization that targets people like Naruto called jinchuriki. Taking place after Episode 479: Naruto Uzumaki!! and two years after the Fourth Shinobi War, Naruto, Sakura, Sai, Hinata and Shikamaru deal with a new threat that not only threatens Konoha but the entire world.
After so many years, Naruto and Hinata finally got together! Do you have any idea how many episodes I had to watch to get up to that point?! This was the perfect way to end not only Shipudden but also the OG Naruto series.
Although Boruto isn't the best anime series it's brilliant fight scenes are spectacular.

46. My Hero Academia the Movie: Heroes Rising

The sequel to Two Heroes and based on the Shonen Anime juggernaut, My Hero Academia. Before I talk about this movie, let's talk about the series. First and foremost it's brilliant! In a world where 50%   of the human population have superpowers, also known as quirks, a young man named Izuku Midoriya is one of the people that don't have a quirk but still dreams of becoming a hero just like his idol, All Might. When he meets All Might, he passes down his quirk to Midoriya called One For All, a power that has been passed down for years. Now he must use his new power to defeat The League of Villains and other evil forces.
Taking place during Season 4, Deku(Midoriya) and his friends from Class 1A take a trip to a secluded island to look after a civilization. When a powerful enemy threatens them and it's up to them to stop him.
I loved the climactic battle of Deku and Bakugo against Nine, its setting and beautiful animation!
This is a sequel that improves on its first movie in every possible way! I can't wait for Season 5.

45. Coraline

Based on the book by Neil Gaiman, this arguably one of the creepiest movies I've ever seen but I love it. It's about a 12 year old girl named Coraline who moves to in to another house with his parents. One night while exploring her new home, she finds a secret door that opens to another parallel world that mirrors her own home but is better in so many ways. She loves it there until her other mother wants her to stay forever by having buttons being sewn to her eyes. She must use all of her resources and bravery to make back to her real home.
I loved the clay-mation, Dakota Fanning as the voice of Coraline, Keith David as the talking cat and Teri Hatcher as the Other Mother and its creepy aesthetic.
Henry Selick crafted a very impressive albeit scary film that children would never see in a movie theater.
Fun fact, it was originally going to be live action but it ultimately became a stop-motion animated film.
This movie was the first to come out of LAIKA productions which would later release more movies like ParaNorman, The Box Trolls, Kubo & The Two Strings and Missing Link.
If you have the guts to watch an unsettling animated movie, then Coraline is for you.

44.  The Nightmare Before Christmas

This iconic stop-motion animated musical movie is still beloved after almost 3 decades.
The story of Jack Skellington, the pumpkin king in Halloween Town and opens a portal to Christmas Town and decides to celebrate that holiday instead.
It's basically Tim Burton-style weirdness for 74 minutes and I wouldn't have it any other way. Seriously I want that Skellington suit!
Tim Burton did not direct this movie, Henry Selick did. Tim Burton produced it. Don't forget that!
Before Selick did Coraline, he did the iconic and visually aesthetic masterpiece that is The Nightmare Before Christmas. Without Danny Elfman's iconic musical score we wouldn't have The Nightmare Before Christmas.
It was also an ode to German Expressionist films like The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari and is very much like How The Grinch Stole Christmas but much more macabre.
It doesn't matter if it it's a Halloween movie or a Christmas movie, it's all up to you.

42. The Secret of NIMH

Don Bluth, a former Disney animator left the animation company to start his own company called Sullivan Bluth Studios which gave us The Land Before Time, All Dogs Go to Heaven and An American Tail.
This is probably one of the most darkest non-Disney movies ever made and one of the most underrated movies of all time.
Based on the children's book Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH by Robert C. O'Brien, it's the story of a field mouse who must seek the aid of a rat colony with whom that she has a deeper link than she thought. She later learns that he husband and the other rats were experiments at the National Institute of Mental Health(NIMH).
It's got beautiful animation and a great story. Although it had its creepy moments, this was still an animation triumph.

41. My Neighbor Totoro

Alright! Here we go. Studio Ghibli!
I love Hayao Miyazaki all of these movies are my childhood!
This successful anime studio has given us great films including Castle in the Sky, Spirited Away, Ponyo, Kiki's Delivery Service, The Secret World of Arrietty and Princess Mononoke.
This is about two sisters who encounter a giant cat spirit named Totoro during Post-World War II Japan.
The animation is Beautiful! I really loved this story! Did you know that both Dakota and Elle Fanning did the English dub on both of the sisters?!
Ever since then, Totoro became a mascot for Studio Ghibli. He even appeared in Toy Story 3!
Soon, I'll make a ranking list on every Studio Ghibli movie.
I just wish all of those movies would come to Netflix instead of HBO MAX!

40. Kung Fu Panda

I got two words for you. JACK. BLACK!
Seriously he's the coolest and funniest dude on the planet!
If y'all didn't laugh at Po's antics you're not even human. Plus, Tai Lung was a great villain! Kudos to Ian McShane. I tip my hat to you, sir.
Dustin Hoffman as Master Shifu is a legend.
This wouldn't be a Martial Arts movie without Jackie Chan. Honestly I just love this voice cast which also consisted of Angelina Jolie, Seth Rogen, David Cross and James Hong.
The fight sequences are unforgettable and its sequels upped the ante on its martial arts choreography.
I really hope we get more Kung Fu Panda movies in the future, there are just some many more stories to tell.

39. The Iron Giant

Before Brad Bird directed The Incredibles, he did this criminally underrated and beautiful film, The Iron Giant.
Based on Ted Hughes' Cold War fable, this is about a young boy named Hogarth who befriends a giant robot during 1950s Maine which was at the height of the Cold War.
I loved the vocal performances of both Eli Marienthal and Vin Diesel!
Don't tell me that you guys didn't grew up watching this movie. This is such a great and inspiring animated movie this is unforgettable storytelling at its finest and it later became the influence for 2018's Bumblebee. It also had very ambitious topics and complex human relationships.
It's such a shame that it didn't win or get nominated for any Academy Awards. But it did receive an Annie Award for Best Animated Feature Film.

38. Chicken Run

Aardman Productions was known for making "Wallace & Gromit" and "Shaun the Sheep" shorts. Chicken Run was the first feature length animated movie they ever released and the production company later released Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, Flushed Away, Arthur Christmas, The Pirates! Band of Misfits, Shaun the Sheep Movie and its sequel Farmageddon and Early Man.
This is also one of my favorite movies from my childhood. This is about a group of hens who must escape Tweedys farm before they're all turned into Chicken Pot Pies. Their only hope is an American rooster named Rocky voiced to perfection by Mel Gibson.
It's like the plot of The Great Escape but with Chickens and that the farm feels like a POW camp.
It's so funny and brilliant animated that it feels like you see walking talking clay figures come to life on an actual set. I can't wait for the sequel! Yes, there will be a sequel to Chicken Run.

37. Kubo and the Two Strings

LAIKA's fourth feature film and arguably its best and most expensive movie yet. Kubo and the Two Strings is one hell of an emotional rollercoaster.
Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, it's the story of Kubo who's peaceful existence comes crashing down when he accidentally summons a vengeful spirit from the past. Now on the run, Kubo joins forces with Monkey and Beetle to unlock a secret legacy. Armed with his musical instrument, Kubo must battle the Moon King(AKA his grandfather) and other gods and monsters to solve the mystery of his late father who was the greatest samurai the world has ever seen.
Beautiful visuals and animation stand out in this groundbreaking movie! It kinda bothered me that an English actor voiced Kubo since that Kubo himself is an Asian character. But I also loved Matthew McConaughey as Beetle, he brought the much needed comedic relief in a movie that had heartbreaking moments.
I LOVE THIS MOVIE SO MUCH!

36. Bambi

The third feature length film from Walt Disney Animation Studios, Bambi is one of the those movies that took a big risk by killing off parental figures in an animated movie.
This is one of Disney's most darker films with moments like when two birds were scared and they hid in the grass from the hunters and one of them flew away and instantly died off screen. Just the look on that poor bird. DAMN😥.
When I was little I was so confused about where the mother went cause The Prince of the Forest basically said "So, um.... your mom is... gone." Just the thought of growing up without a parent is too much to bear. At least Bambi had his friends tho. Did you know that I though that Flower(The Skunk) was a girl?
That aside, I really loved the animation.

35. Pinocchio

Yup. Another Dark Disney movie.
This movie needs no introduction whatsoever.
It's such an iconic and beautiful story about a puppet that wants to be a real person.
But I didn't think that this movie would get DARK. First, Pinocchio gets himself in a cage, then he ends up on an island where boys turn into donkeys. Yeah that scene where that kid turned into a donkey was so messed up to watch and Pinocchio smoked a cigar. Like really??
That aside, this is still a classic fairytale movie. Jiminy Cricket's a great character tho.
The iconic animation studio needed to prove that Snow White wasn't a fluke and so they came up with the idea to adapt Carlo Collodi's Italian children's book of the same name. They also wrote the song "When You Wish Upon a Star" which became the trademark tune for the Disney brand.
With a live-action remake currently in the works, hopefully it'll capture the same magic of its predecessor.

34. Aladdin

Another Disney movie with ZERO introduction.
After the success of both The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin became one of Greatest Disney films! And that's due to the success of Robin Williams as The Genie!! The guy stole the show in every way, most of the dialogue was improvised(of course) and some jokes and impressions didn't make it in the final cut. All of those celebrity impressions flew over my head as a kid. He did impressions of Robert De Niro, Groucho Marx, Rodney Dangerfield, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Arsenio Hall and Jack Nicholson.
Every time I watch this movie, I never get tired of The Genie. God... I miss Robin Williams. Every time I think about him I could just cry. Y'know?
Now, let's talk about the songs. Friend Like Me? THAT'S A BOP! A Whole New World? CLASSIC! Arabian Nights? CLASSIC!
But here's the thing that bugs me about the movie. Aladdin basically go the girl BY LYING!! I wouldn't do that. I would be totally honest with my girlfriend(If I get a girlfriend).
So guys, don't be like Aladdin. It ain't worth it.
I still love this movie tho.

33. Fantasia

This movie is iconic for a reason! Just look at the poster. It's the only animated film with no talking. Just music. That is a true masterpiece right there.
Although the Centaur segment hasn't aged well, the movie itself is a beautiful experience to watch with your own pair of eyes.
Night on Bald Mountain still freaks me out. What did that whole segment mean?!
I really loved The Nutcracker Suite, The Sorcerer's Apprentice(obviously), Rite of Spring and Dance of the Hours.
I am confused about why The Sorcerer's Apprentice needed to be adapted into a live action movie without Mickey Mouse.

32. The Land Before Time

Another movie made by Don Bluth's production company and Executive Produced by Steven Spielberg and George Lucas, The Land Before Time is another Dark non-Disney animated movie.
It's probably one of the most saddest movies I've ever watched.
Littlefoot's mother's death really made me cry. If you lost a parent when you were very young then this movie isn't for you.
I really loved the animation, its believable voice acting and its original song, "If We Hold On Together" by Diana Ross.

31. Rango

Rarely had Nickeoldeon Movies ever released an original movie that was as good as Rango!
The fourth collaboration with Johnny Depp and Gore Verbinski, Rango is about a chameleon with an identity crisis and gets lost in the Mojave Desert and ends up in a town called Dirt, becomes the town's Sheriff and must step up as a real hero. Johnny Depp voiced the titular character to perfection! There's really no other actor that can pull off the role of Rango quite like Johnny Depp.
Winner of the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature this a movie that will blow you away from its realistic animation and Roger Deakin's cinematography this is one movie that you will never take your eyes off of. Plus... Timothy Olyphant as The Man With No Name. That's all.

30. Hercules

Sorry. I mean HUNK-ULES!!
I don't think this movie needs any introduction.
Never has Disney Animation grappled Greek Mythology quite like Disney!
It has the best adult references and jokes! Including the Oedipus Rex reference. For those of you who didn't read Oedipus Rex in 9th grade, it's basically a messed up story of incest and murder.
I really love James Woods as Hades and Danny DeVito as Philoctetes! If he's not playing Phil in the live-action remake, then I'm not watching it. Simple.
It had great songs, excellent animation and thrilling sequences.
Honestly I don't know how I'm supposed to feel about the remake news because I don't think Hercules should be remade. It's perfect as it is. That's all I'm saying.

29. Finding Nemo

The fourth feature-length movie to come out of Pixar Animation Studios, Finding Nemo was another knock out hit from Pixar and the winner of the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
A clownfish looking for his lost son with the help of a regal blue tang with short-term memory loss is still beloved to this very day and it's one of my favorite Pixar movies!
The animators did a really good job of bringing the Great Barrier Reef to life.
The movie had memorable characters including of course Ellen DeGeneres as the voice of Dory!
I also loved the beautiful animation and it was a great portrayal of father-son dynamics.
Its sequel, Finding Dory captured the same magic as its predecessor in so many ways.

28. Tangled

The first CG-animated Disney movie since Meet the Robinsons and the first ever Disney Fairy Tale movie to be computer animated, Tangled is a new take on the Brothers Grimm classic folk tale, Rapunzel.
One of the many animated movies that kick started the 2010s, Tangled was a great take on Rapunzel.
I thought that this movie would be about Flynn Rider but it was actually about Rapunzel but that's totally fine.
I loved Zachary Levi as Rider and Mandy Moore as Rapunzel. Damn that girl can sing!
This was also the movie that started the trend of Disney CG-animated movies like Wreck-It Ralph, Big Hero 6, Frozen, Zootopia and Moana and I can't wait for Raya and the Last Dragon!

27. The Simpsons Movie

For 30 years, The Simpsons has become a staple in animated sitcoms that center on a Middle-Class family.
In 2007, The Simpsons Movie was released.
The Simpson family are forced to leave their home after an angry mob shows up at their house, which was Homer's fault. He basically dumped chemical waste into a lake. The crisis leads to not just Springfield but the entire world in jeopardy.
The animation looked great, it was funny and I really hope that a sequel can happen! Can we also get other movies based on great animated shows like Family Guy and Rick & Morty? Thank you. Also I'm really looking to the Bob's Burger's movie.
Fun fact: It was originally going to be a musical. Imagine that.

26. South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut

Based on the hit animated sitcom and the King of all of Controversial TV, Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny sneak into an R-rated film, Terrence & Philip: the Movie(it's funny because kids snuck into the South Park movie to see it.) and get in trouble at school for swearing and the parents blame Canada for exploiting inappropriate content for kids to watch as a result, America declares war on Canada and the kids must save Terrence & Philip from getting executed. Unlike The Simpsons Movie, this was a musical.
I love how this satirizes censorship in shows for mature audiences.
This was a supremely funny movie and probably a game changer for R-rated animated movies. Originally, the MPAA gave the movie an NC-17 rating, but ultimately, it got its R-rating.
This show has no signs of slowing down, whether we like it or not.

25. Mulan

Another knock out hit from Disney during its renaissance, Mulan has inspired many woman around the world for years.
Taking place during the Han Dynasty and based on the Chinese Legend, Hua Mulan, Fa Mulan disguises herself as a man to fight the Huns with the help of a dragon, who was voiced to absolute perfection by Eddie Murphy.
Mulan also had humor in an otherwise bleak action adventure film. Yeah, so War is hell. No way to sugarcoat that.
The songs are some of my favorite Disney songs ever! Particularly, "I'll Make A Man Out of You."
The less said about Mulan II... the better.
Right now I'm so conflicted if I should watch the Mulan remake, it's not the same without Mushu! But I really love the cinematography and the action sequences looks so good!

24. Shrek

Don't tell me that you've never watched Shrek when you were little! We've all seen Shrek!
It's a timeless, smart and a hilarious classic.
This is Dreamworks Animation's sophomore outing and it was really impressive.
Who doesn't love Eddie Murphy as Donkey??
I was going to put Shrek 2 seeing as it surpassed the first movie and with the inclusions of Puss in Boots voiced by Antonio Banderas, Rupert Friend as Prince Charming, Jennifer Saunders, a successful Broadway star as The Fairy Godmother and Fiona's parents voiced by both Julie Andrews and John Cleese both of them are great and memorable British comedic actors. As for Shrek the Third and Shrek Forever After... not so much. They were OK but they weren't as good as the first two movies.
It's also the first movie to be nominated and win an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
Fun fact: Chris Farley was the original voice of Shrek but he died of a drug overdose before he started to work in the recording booth.

23. Madagascar

From one Dreamworks Animated movie to another, Madagascar was the DEFINING movie of my childhood. I wouldn't really be a fan of Dreamworks Animation if it wasn't for this movie.
Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, David Schwimmer(ROSS GELLER, EVERYBODY!), Jada Pinkett Smith and Sacha Baron Cohen. The perfect voice cast.
I don't even know why this movie has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 54%. How can Madagascar be rotten?! It's a great movie and the franchise got better with two sequels, a spin-off movie and a spin-off TV Show. It had memorable scenes including the opening scene, Marty walking the NYC streets like he's Tony Manero from Saturday Night Fever, Alex getting beat up by an old lady, the "Chariots of Fire" spoof sequence, Alex making Mort cry, the penguins smiling and waving and every scene with King Julian.
It's a classic and I love it.

22. Toy Story 4

This was the sequel that I didn't know I needed!
A sequel to Toy Story 3 was basically unnecessary, since that it ended Woody and Andy's story.
It seemed like the animators had more stories to tell for Woody and the gang.
In Toy Story 4, Bonnie takes Woody and the toys on a road trip and bring along a spork named Forky voiced by Tony Hale of Arrest Development and Veep fame. Along the way, Woody gets separated from his friends when Forky jumps out of the moving RV and they end up in a town where Bo Peep, Woody's lost love is and gets reunited. Now Woody must choose whether she wants to be with Bo Peep or stay with his friends.
This was another cinematic and beautiful masterpiece from the franchise! I was afraid that it would dampen its legacy but the result payed off in a BIG way and it was the second movie in the Toy Story franchise that won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
I really loved Keegan Michael-Key & Jordan Peele as Bunny and Duck and Keanu Reeves as Duke Kaboom! This movie came out a month after John Wick Chapter 3 and his surprise cameo in Always Be My Maybe and a couple of weeks after his E3 appearance.
This was a great send-off for Woody and Buzz's friendship and an excellent cinematic epilogue.

21. Up

Another Pixar movie on this list, Up is not only one of Pixar's greatest movies, it's one of the best animated movies. PERIOD.
This was more than a story of an old man living in a floating house, it's a story of loss and what it means to have adventure in the smallest of places.
I wasn't expecting that gut-wrenching and heartbreaking opening scene when I first saw the movie and everytime I hear Michael Giacchino's "Married Life" I would just cry.
It's also the first Pixar movie to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture(it lost to The Hurt Locker) and it won two other Oscars including Best Animated Feature and Best Original Score. Michael Giacchino delivered another iconic musical score for a spectacular movie.
The movie was so poignant, funny and it had so depth.
Fun fact: Carl Fredrickson was based on Spencer Tracy and the animators spent three days in Venezuela gathering research and inspiration for the movie.
I also loved Dug. It made me believe that those collars are probably real and who knew Charles Muntz was the bad guy?? God. I love Christopher Plummer.
I really hope that we get a sequel to Up. If it'll happen.

20. WALL-E

You'd be so amazed about how a movie with almost 30 minutes of zero dialogue can change a movie.
Just the sound design in this movie blew me away.
Thomas Newman's musical score also blew me away.
It also made me cry, cause I thought that WALL-E was gone for good, y'know.
Such beautiful animation and only small bits of dialogue was what I loved about this movie. It was also a thought-provoking movie on the consequences on damaging the environment.
Fun fact: the sound designer from Star Wars worked on the sounds for the movie.
It also won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and was also nominated for other Oscars including Best Original Score, Best Original Song, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing and Best Original Screenplay.
It's such a shame that it didn't win both Sound Editing and Sound Mixing.
Now I just really want a WALL-E sequel.

19. Toy Story 3

Released on my birthday, June 18th, 2010 and another great childhood movie. Toy Story 3 was the long-awaited sequel to Toy Story 2 and it kickstarted another decade of great animated movies.
This was Pixar's darkest movie due to its antagonist and Buzz going into full-on demo mode.
I really thought Lotso was a good guy but really, he's actually a dick. It was his fault that the toy gang were almost burned in the incinerator. Bro! I was on the edge of my seat! I though that they were gone for good!
It had the perfect opening montage and one of the saddest endings were put in film! The day that Andy goes to college he gives his toys to Bonnie and as Andy drives away, Woody said the words "So long... Partner."
Winner of the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, it's a wonderful sequel that succeeds the two first films! It was an emotional rollercoaster.
Lee Unkrich did a great job with Toy Story 3 and he would later go on to direct another critically acclaimed Pixar film, Coco.

18. Toy Story 2

Released 4 years after Toy Story, Toy Story 2 saw the return of Woody, Buzz and the rest of the toys.
When Woody gets stolen from his home by Al McWhiggin, the owner of Al's Toy Barn, Buzz, Mr. Potato head, Rex, Ham and Slinky go try to rescue him. But when Woody discovers that he's a valuable collectible from an old TV show and is reunited with Jessie, his horse Bullseye and Stinky Pete the Prospector, he doesn't know if he wants to leave with his friends or stay with Jesse, Bullseye and Pete.
This one of those sequel movies that exceeded the first film due to its breakout secondary characters.
It also had the most gut-wrenching scenes ever made. Jessie used to belong to someone like Andy, when her owner got older, she abandoned her and moved on with her life with its original song "When She Loved Me" playing in the background. Bruh, I tear up every time I think about it.
I also loved when it spoofed Empire Strikes Back with that scene with the other Buzz and Zurg. "No, Buzz. I am your Father!" That's my favorite scene in the entire movie.
Fun fact: Toy Story 2 was almost lost. One of the animators accidentally started a deletion of the root folder of the Toy Story 2 assets on Pixar's internal servers. Eventually, the file servers were shut down and 90% of the movie was gone. The movie was saved when one of the technical directors had the backups in her home computer. The Pixar team were able to recover the assets and the movie proceeded just as planned.
Another Fun Fact: It was originally a Direct-to-video sequel movie.
Also I identified with Stinky Pete a lot. He was a great sympathetic villain. He has never had an owner and spent his entire life in a box. I just felt really bad y'know.
I really do love this movie I could go on and on about it.

17. Wreck-It Ralph

Released a couple of years after the success of Tangled, Wreck-It Ralph was arguably the greatest movie about video games EVER! With so many video game character cameos, including Sonic the Hedgehog, Bowser, Eggman, Pac-Man and Frogger. If only characters like Mario, Cloud Strife, Lara Croft(well, she was mentioned.), Nathan Drake, Link, Jak & Dexter, Crash Bandicoot, Ratchet & Clank, Kratos or Ezio from Assassin's Creed II made AN APPEARANCE!!
With all of that product placement in this movie, it's such a great original story! It follows Wreck-It Ralph, who is a Bad Guy in an Arcade game called Fix-It Felix, Jr. with an identity crisis. When he wants to take matters into his own hands and wants to be the "hero" he goes on a game-hopping journey to prove that he has what it takes. Along the way, he accidentally releases a virus that threatens the entire arcade.
Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature(It lost to Brave, another great Pixar movie but very underrated), It's such a funny and poignant movie and a great character study on a video game character(all thanks to John C. Reilly). Vanellope, Sergeant Calhoun and Felix were great supporting characters and I DID NOT SEE THAT KING CANDY TWIST COMING.
It even had the worthy follow-up, Ralph Breaks the Internet where every Pop Culture Character from the Disney canon makes an appearance, but... there was still no Mario! Or Crash Bandicoot or Nathan Drake.

16. I Lost My Body

Also known in France as J'ai Peru mon corps. Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated feature, winner of the Nespresso Grand Prize at the Cannes Film Festival and the winner of the Cesar Award for Best Animated Film, I Lost My Body tells the story of a moving hand with a goal to get back to its host. As it travels through Paris, it remembers its life with the boy it was once attached to.
It's such a Beautiful and unique movie with themes of physical and emotional loss. Both the hand and Naoufel lost something that they once had. (Naoufel lost his parents at a young age while his hand lost his host.) It's a very deep and poetic film.
This is also the first French-animated movie I've watched and I have yet to see My Life as a Zucchini, April and the Extraordinary World, The Red Turtle, Ernest & Celestine and A Cat in Paris.
Xilam Animation knocked it out of the park with I Lost My Body and I'm looking forward to what they do next.

15. How to Train Your Dragon

THIS IS IT! This is my favorite movie from Dreamworks Animation!
Nominated for two Academy Awards(Best Animated Feature and Best Original Score). This is the story of Hiccup(weird name, I know) the son of the Viking Chief of his village, who encounters a very rare dragon and befriends it and just like that, a GREAT friendship was born!
Beautiful CG-animation which still holds up after 10 years, an iconic score by John Powell, an all-star voice cast consisting of Jay Baruchel, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Kristen Wiig, Gerard Butler, Jonah Hill and Craig Ferguson and soo much dramatic depth made this agruably one of the Greatest Animated Movies ever made.
Who wouldn't want to ride a dragon like Toothless!
It became so popular that it had a popular TV show on the Cartoon Network which later moved to Netflix and the movie got two worthy follow-up movies which were just as amazing as the first movie.

14. Toy Story

The one that started it al!!
Not only was Toy Story the first Pixar movie but the first movie to be Computer Animated.
This movie changed everything!!
It set the gold standard for the future animation and Pixar pulled it off BIG TIME!
It was that point that the animated studio went to Infinity and Beyond.
Fun Fact: Tom Hanks originally didn't like the character of Woody because he was very mean-spirited.
Another fun fact: Billy Crystal was the original pick to voice Buzz Lightyear but Tim Allen was cast instead and Crystal went on to voice Mike Wasowski in Monsters, Inc.

13. Moana

I don't usually love Disney Princess movies but this one has to be my personal favorite.
Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. It's the story of a Teenage Girl who sets off on a quest to save her island with the help of a Demi-God who is voiced by the one, the only. Drum roll, please?.... DWAYNE JOHNSON!! He was the perfect choice to play a Polynesian Demi-God and Auli'iCravalho SHINED as Moana.
It's so rare that a Disney Animated movie explored Polynesian Culture and IT DID!
This was a truly Great movie and probably it's best Disney CG-animated movie to date!
I'll say it again. I'm soo excited for Raya and the Last Dragon!
It even made fun of so many Disney Princess tropes, a Mad Max reference and great songs that were written by Lin-Manuel Miranda. If you think about it, he would've been PEGOT if the movie won the Oscar.
What else can I type except "You're Welcome??"

12. Big Hero 6

Based on an unknown Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name and the winner of the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, it's the story of Hiro Hamada, a Robotics Prodigy who lives in the city of San Fransokyo and his robot companion, Baymax with a sole purpose to take care of people. After the tragic death of his brother, he and Baymax get themselves involved in a dangerous plot and they and their friends become superheroes to prevent.
It's so deeply emotional, funny and stunningly animated and Baymax was such a great character.
Oh and... Fall Out Boy did a song for the movie. YUP. Immortals is such a BOP!
I love both Big Hero 6 and Wreck-It Ralph! I can't pick which is my favorite!
I really hope that we get a sequel!  Cause why not? The movie did made 660 million dollars at the Box Office against a 165 million dollar budget! So... a sequel should be made. At least we have the TV Show. The show is great btw, y'all should watch it.
The sequel's plot should be that Tadashi did somehow survive the explosion and he now has pyrokinetic abilities. It's a dope idea to have Tadashi be a full-blown bad-ass!! And it would have a powerful and worthy adversary against the titular team. Please, Disney? MAKE IT HAPPEN!

11. The Lion King

For those of you who do read my blog, I did a whole blog post on why The Lion King is the Greatest Disney movie ever made.
This is Disney Animation's magnum opus! A story that's told like it's an actual circle of life.
It's a beautiful, funny and a downright deep and philosophical journey.
With music by Hans Zimmer and songs by Elton John, made this movie ROAR!
The opening sequence and its climax is truly remarkable.
And its voice cast is truly special including Jeremy Irons as Scar.
It's a masterpiece and what else can I say about it.

10. Your Name

Before you watch Your Name just know that this movie will break your heart.
Directed by Makoto Shinkai, it's about two teenagers who share a connection when their bodies get swapped. But this becomes even more complicated when they're both from two different time periods which makes it more difficult to meet in person.
It's the most BEAUTIFUL anime film I've ever seen and it just makes me want to cry. Just... there's so much attention to detail. I just don't understand why it didn't get nominated for an Oscar. This deserved to be recognized by The Academy!
This was Japan's most successful to date, earning 23 billion yen in a 190 million yen budget and it became the second-largest grossing movie in the country and it made Makoto Shinkai a household name and it you want more Shinkai, check out 5 Centimeters per second, The Garden of Words and Weathering with You.

9. Akira

Not only is this a great Anime film but it's also one of the most influential movies of all time! It became the pioneer for the Japanese Cyberpunk genre and adult animation and the first anime film to reach Western audiences and the first time that America was introduced to the Anime genre.
Based on Katsushiro Otomo's manga of the same name, Akira tells the story of Shotaro Kaneda, the leader of a biker gang whose childhood friend, Tetsuo Shima, gets telekinetic abilities after a motorcycle accident. Tetsuo eventually threatens the Neo-Tokyo military complex in the amidst of chaos and rebellion.
While the movie didn't make a splash at the International Box Office, it received a cult following through VHS and Home Video sales.
It's such a bloody and violent movie and it's definitely not for the squeamish but for those who can handle it, while enjoy this iconic masterpiece.
PLEASE DON'T REMAKE AKIRA! IT'S NOT NECESSARY!! Just leave Kaneda alone!!

8. Ghost in the Shell

Out of all of the movie genres that I love, Cyberpunk is probably my favorite! Just the aesthetic and the vibe.
Another Cyberpunk Anime film and based on Masamune Shirow's manga of the same name, Ghost in the Shell follows Motoko Kusanagi, a cyborg public-security agent who hunts a mysterious hacker known as The Puppet Master.
Not only is this a GREAT Anime movie, but it's also a GREAT movie!
I loved the narrative, Kenji Kawai's amazing musical score and visuals!
From the iconic opening titles/sequence, breathtaking midpoint, philosophical themes of identity, beautiful climax and its ambiguous ending. I JUST LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS MOVIE!! It eventually became the inspiration for The Matrix.
It's the perfect to be introduced to the Anime genre.
The less said about the Hollywood remake starring Scarlett Johansson... the better.

7. The Hunchback of Notre Dame

One of my favorite musical movies alongside Sweeney Todd, Grease and La La Land.
Based on Victor Hugo's novel of the same name, The Hunchback of Notre Dame is one of Disney's darkest and unconventional movies ever as it explored themes as infanticide(the murder of a baby), sin and genocide.
This is the story of Quasimodo who's isolated from the outside world and lives in the Notre Dame Cathedral where he rings the bells every day and struggles to be accepted by society.
While the movie did have Disney's trademark humor, this was still a very dark movie.
I loved Tony Jay as the voice of Judge Claude Frollo and the musical number "Hellfire".
I was too scared to watch this movie when I was a kid, but when I got older, I eventually got to.
Hopefully the Live-Action remake will be spectacular and I really want Josh Gad to play Quasimodo and Christoph Waltz to play Judge Claude Frollo. Need proof? Just watch the opening scene of Inglorious Basterds.

6. The Incredibles

One of the funniest movies ever made, Incredibles IS A DAMN GOOD TIME!!
It's the perfect movie about family dynamics and every scene with the Parr family is soo relatable.
And most of the characters in this movie are fan favorites including Edna Mode. SHE'S A GREAT CHARACTER. I want her to be my personal fashion designer! Who could forget the "Honey, where's my supersuit scene?" scene and Syndrome was a great villain. I really understood his motive. All he wanted was to be a superhero, but Bob just had to tell him "Fly home, Buddy. I work alone." I'm not saying what Bob did was right, I'm just saying if he hadn't had Buddy be his sidekick he wouldn't become an evil maniac. JUST SAYING!
I had to wait 15 years for a sequel. 15 YEARS! Incredibles 2 was a wonderful sequel, but I feel like the first movie is superior in every way and the sequel should've had a 15 year time jump with Dash and Violet becoming professional superheroes and stuff.
If we ever get an Incredibles 3, let's see more Underminer, more superheroes, more Jack-Jack and EDNA!

5. The LEGO Movie

Come on, say it with me now, you know you guys want to... EVERYTHING IS AWESOME!!! Ah... who am I kidding. That was sooo 2014.
One of the best and surprising movies to ever come of the decade, The LEGO Movie is just well awesome.
Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Alison Brie, Charlie Day, Nick Offerman, Will Ferrell, Liam Neeson and Morgan Freeman gave HELLA good vocal performances!!
And the climactic battle is PURE Animation magic!
I thought this movie would suck because it's based on a toy brand, but this was just a REALLY GOOD and hilarious movie!
It even started a whole franchise, which so far gave us two spin-off movies, a spin-off TV show and a sequel. While The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part was a worthy follow-up, it doesn't even come close to the perfect movie that was, The LEGO Movie.

4. Spirited Away

Hayao Miyazaki's magnum opus, Spirited Away is one of the beautiful and most magnificent anime movies ever and Studio Ghibili's best movie.
It's the story of a 10-year old girl named Chihiro who stumbles upon an abandoned amusement park. After her parents are turned into giant pigs, Chihiro meets someone named Haku, who explains that the park is a resort for spiritual beings and she must free herself and her parents. The only to do that, is to work in the spirit world.
Spirited Away is a masterpiece of modern anime and is the best modern fairy tale ever told.
It's the first anime film to win an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and it's very easy to see. why.
There's really nothing else I can say about this. It's so amazing, it just makes me so speechless.

3. Inside Out

It's the best Pixar movie ever!! FIGHT ME! I'll do a blog post on why it's the Best Pixar movie! Trust me. I'll do it.
This is my favorite Pixar movie ever! Not only is it funny, it's so poignant and heartbreaking. I'LL NEVER FORGET YOU, BING BONG!!😭
Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith(Yes. It's Phyllis from The Office. Surprised?), Lewis Black, Mindy Kaling and Bill Hader were all amazing!
Winner of the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, it told the story of 4 emotions living in a human brain and turn it into an original open world. If you ever wonder what goes on inside your head, this is it.
What really makes this my favorite Pixar movie, is its social message. It's ok to be sad, you don't need to hide it.
I really hope that a sequel will happen. Hopefully it comes out on June 18, 2021. Which is well... my birthday.

2. Coco

THIS WAS TRULY A BEAUTIFUL AND SPECIAL MOVIE!! This movie still gets me every time.
Winner of the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, this is the story of a young boy named Miguel who goes to the Land of the Dead on Dia de los Muertos.
Convinced that his idol is his great-grandfather, he travels through the afterlife to find and help him return to the land of the living and to reverse the family's ban on music.
This is a great film about Mexican culture and Dia de los Muertos. It was all done right. Even the voice cast were all Mexican and the Pixar team did a lot of research on Mexican culture.
It had great songs(I didn't know that singer, Miguel is half-Mexican!) , beautiful animation and great social commentary on the importance of family.

And now, here are a few honorable mentions

- Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit

- The Emperor’s New Groove

- Monsters,  Inc.

For the record, I pronounce it as Monsters, Incorporated. NOT MONSTERS INK!

- Lilo & Stitch

- 101 Dalmatians

- An American Tail

- Ice Age

1. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

And lo and behold, my top pick is... Spider-Verse!!

This was the perfect movie to close out the year of 2018.
Not only is this my favorite Spider-Man movie, but it's my favorite movie of 2018.
Winner of the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, it follows Miles Morales as he's bitten by a radioactive spider and gets spider-like abilities and gets mentored by Spider-Man himself Peter Parker. Well... Peter B. Parker that is.
I never thought that an animated Spider-Man movie would be so surprisingly amazing. I didn't know what to expect until I saw the mind-blowing teaser trailer. It's a literal comic book brought to life!
Shameik Moore gave a great vocal performance as Miles Morales, Jake Johnson was the perfect Peter Parker, Liev Schreiber made Kingpin a sympathetic villain, Hailee Steinfeld killed it as Spider-Gwen and I absolutely love John Mulaney as Spider-Pig!! If you don't watch anything John Mulaney, we can't be friends.(Nah. I'll still be friends with you guys if you don't.)
It even had a great album of awesome songs that I've listened to soo many times!
Fun fact about myself, I love Post Malone.
I loved every single moment from this movie. From the opening segment, Miles experiencing his powers, Aaron's death, the final showdown, the post-credits scene and the "leap of faith" scene.
Leap of Faith is my favorite scene in the entire movie!! It's soo amazing and already iconic.
No matter who you are, you can be Spider-Man. How will you know? You don't. It's a leap of faith.
I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE SEQUEL!! I'd have to wait a little bit longer, but that's ok. It'll basically be more about Miles & Gwen's relationship, hopefully Oscar Isaac's Miguel O'Hara will be a central part in the movie, I really want Tobey Maguire to make a vocal guest appearance and to have more Spider-Men.
I CAN ONLY HOPE!
