Every Spider-Man Movie ranked!

Every Spider-Man movie ranked:

Hello, Everybody! Since that today is National Spider-Man day, I did a ranking of the Spider-Man movies. This is based on my personal opinion. If you don't like the ranking then you can go off in the comments.

8. Spider-Man 3

The movie that nearly destroyed Spider-Man and put Toby Maguire's career in jeopardy. It had problems most notably the inclusion of 3 Spider-Man villains as main antagonists, Peter strutting down the street and looking like a complete jack-ass, the runtime and Topher Grace's portrayal of Eddie Brock/Venom. While I don't blame the poor guy, the movie could've been better if a more muscular man played one of Spidey's biggest foes. Luckily Tom Hardy took up the mantle and the result was brilliant. Director Sam Raimi even publicly hated the film saying that it's "awful." A 4th movie was planned in case Spider-Man 3 became a commercial success with John Malkovich and Anne Hathaway in talks to play both Vulture and Black Cat.

7. The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Since that The Amazing Spider-Man became a somewhat financial success, a sequel was inevitable. Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone reprised their roles while Dane Dehaan, Paul Giamatti and Jamie Foxx played the main antagonists. The inclusion of all Electro, Green Goblin, and Rhino were very problematic and concerns came to light. The movie was critically panned! Becoming the only Spider-Man movie to have a rotten score of 51% on Rotten Tomatoes. The death of Gwen Stacy didn't even try to make the movie special. It also had a very lengthy runtime of 2hrs and 30 min., the introduction of Alexei Systevich was too goofy for its own good and very disappointing, it had an unfocused narrative with three separate storylines that have nothing to do with the plot like the Harry Osborn storyline which was a complete mess and Jamie Foxx failed to do justice to Electro. There was also reported scenes of Shailene Woodley's Mary Jane Watson but the scenes were ultimately cut. That would've been an even more stuffy film. Didn't Sony learn their lesson from Spider-Man 3 to not use too many villains?! Guess not. Because of that, it became a huge failure, which led to the cancelation of its third installment and the Sinister Six spin-off. Another reason why Amazing Spider-Man 3 was canceled was because Andrew Garfield failed to show up at a press conference in France and ultimately overslept, which costed him his role. The franchise got rebooted again with Spider-Man finally joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Tom Holland playing the iconic role.

6. The Amazing Spider-Man

People were skeptical that Spider-Man was getting rebooted with Andrew Garfield playing the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man. While it did have its moments like the climatic showdown and the awakening of Peter's powers. Andrew Garfield's portrayal of Peter Parker however...was too cool. He stood up to Flash Thompson and rode on a skateboard. That is not Peter Parker. At the time, he was around in his late 20s when he played him! The Lizard was... ok. The CGI'd look was impressive and they made Dr. Connors a sympathetic character, they just didn't really make him evil enough. I didn't like that Captain Stacy told Peter to stay away from Gwen as his dying wish instead of telling him to protect her like in the comics. It was an OK film just not my favorite and I don't like Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man. He's just too old and way too cool.

5. Spider-Man: Far from Home

The sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming and taking place after the events of Avengers: Endgame, Peter Parker and his classmates go on a school trip in Europe. While there, Peter faces his biggest threat yet filling the shoes of Tony Stark/Iron Man. It had memorable funny moments like Peter being called Night Monkey, his Spidey-sense being called his Peter Tingle instead, Happy's relationship with May, Peter almost killing Brad and Peter admitting that he's Spider-Man to MJ. I knew that Mysterio was a bad guy because I've watched the animated TV shows and know a thing or two from the comics. But still! The moment when Quentin Beck said "See? That wasn't so hard." I was completely shook. That was a complete 180 on Peter and Beck's bond. Even the trailers had mislead all of us that Quentin Beck would be a supporting character to Peter Parker. It's one of Jake Gyllenhaal's best performances! It's the perfect epilogue to both Phase 3 and The Infinity Saga in the MCU. Although, if you watch it the second time you won't really be surprised about the twists, while it was a great Spider-Man movie. You may or may not enjoy it a second time. I can't wait to see what Peter will do next after that mind-blowing mid-credits scene! The third film has so far been delayed TWICE due to the CO-VID 19 pandemic. December 2021 can't come soon enough!

4. Spider-Man

The first ever Live-Action Spider-Man movie. Coming out during the Golden Age of Superhero movies, this origin story movie needs no introduction. It had great visual effects that still hold up today, a great story and a great performance from Willem Dafoe! No longer was Sam Raimi known as that guy who directed The Evil Dead but the guy who brought Spider-Man brilliantly to life. While Toby Maguire was undeniably a great Peter Parker and Spider-Man, he looked a bit... older. Even Flash Thompson didn't have the convincing good looks of a teenager. Hell all of the teenagers looked 30. There was even one extra who was tall and had a beard. Uncle Ben's inspiring words to Peter; "With Great Power comes Great Responsibility" still resonate to this very day and Peter's story continued in its next two installments.

3. Spider-Man: Homecoming

This was the first GREAT Spider-Man movie in a very long time!! With Tom Holland taking over the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Expectations were very high! Unsurprisingly he pulled off the role soo well!! He looked the part and made him a relatable character. It was the first ever partnership with both Disney, Marvel and Sony releasing the film in theaters. Not only was it a great Spider-Man film by ditching the origin story, it was also a great coming-of-age story with inspiration from many John Hughes classics like Ferris Bueller's Day Off and Pretty in Pink. Michael Keaton as Adrian Toomes/Vulture was especially memorable and is one of the best villains in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Toomes being revealed as Liz's dad caught me completely off guard! While Zendaya being cast as Michelle instead of MJ but then revealing that her friends call her MJ was controversial, the decision ultimately paid off with Zendaya dying her hair red for the red carpet premiere of Far from Home and that Ned was filled in as Peter's best friend instead of Harry due to the fact that Sony owns the rights to Oscorp Industries. Tom Holland is the best Spider-Man!! HE IS!! You can't convince me otherwise.

2. Spider-Man 2

Toby Maguire returns as Peter Parker in the direct sequel to Spider-Man. Peter faces his most personal struggles yet. His best friend hates him, MJ's engaged to another man and his powers are fading away. When Dr. Otto Octavius unveils a nuclear fusion experiment, it results in an explosion, killing his wife in the process. Doc Ock blames Peter and seeks revenge. The action sequences-including the iconic moment of Peter stopping a train with all of the strength that he had-were amazing, the visual effects still hold up today, which earned itself an Academy Award, it was a great Peter Parker story and not only is it one of the best sequels ever made, it's one of the Greatest Superhero Movies of all time! It improved on its predecessor in a BIG way. Fun fact, Tobey Maguire told the filmmakers that he his back hurts due to being in Seabiscuit, they called his bluff and Jake Gyllenhaal was brought in to replace him but Tobey ultimately said "No, no, no. I'm good!" He was given a 17 million dollar salary.

1. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

This is the best Spider-Man movie to date! It made Miles Morales into a very compelling protagonist with Peter Parker, sorry, Peter B. Parker as his mentor. The animation style is BEAUTIFUL, The soundtrack is iconic and it has one of the best ensemble voice casts ever conisting of Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Jake Johnson, Liev Schreiber, Lily Tomlin, Zoe Kravitz, Nicholas Cage, Kimiko Glen, John Mulaney, Mahershala Ali, Bryan Tyree Henry and surprise voice cameos from Chris Pine and Oscar Isaac. The now iconic Leap of Faith scene is one of my favorite scenes in any movie! Plus it had Nick Miller of all people mentoring Miles. Like, Dude! That's Nick from New Girl! It easily solved the problem of having too many villains in a Spider-Man movie and reinvented what a Spider-Man movie can be, inspiring all of us to be Spider-Man. How do you know? You don't. It's a leap of faith.

Thanks for reading and don't forget to comment below who your favorite Spider-Man is.
