Review: Run.

Hi, Everybody! Today I'm going to review Run. (2020), a Horror-Thriller film from writer-director, Aneesh Chaganty. I'm going to be talking about specific plot points so please be wary of spoilers.

First off, I did not expect this movie to be a fucking masterpiece, like damn! I thought The Act was messed up, but this is just something else! It's a very Stephen King-ish kind of Suspense Thriller with a "Derry, Maine" reference thrown in for good measure.

Basically, Sarah Paulson plays a mother, Diane who takes care of her 17-year-old daughter, Chloe, who has asthma, a heart condition, diabetes and a genetic disorder and is bound to a wheelchair and she's also homeschooled. Their relationship seems great, Diane comes home with groceries and the mail, Chloe takes her pills every day and night. Chloe then suspects that her mother is keeping a very dark secret from her. At around 30 min. it turns into a very tense thrill ride with Chloe trying desperately to escape her "mother's love".

Now, one of the pills that Chloe takes is Trigoxin, she wants to look up what it is but the house doesn't have internet and she can't call any of the doctors because they know Diane. It's almost like Diane and Chloe are living in the outside world. When Chloe and Diane go out to see a movie however(seeing Chloe and Diane in a movie theater just makes me miss going to the movies, y'know?), she goes to the Pharmacy where she founds out that Trigoxin is actually dog medicine, meaning if you swallow it, your legs go numb. Meaning that Diane never wants to let Chloe go. Chloe is independent and Diane refuses to accept that. During its climactic scenes, Chloe sees Diane deranged in all of her glory.

Her performance is campy, but I just couldn't help but love the performance regardless, and newcomer Kiera Allen is amazing too and I can't wait to see what she will do next. Oh! And she's a wheelchair user in real life which adds to the authenticity!  Paulson puts on this poker face that makes her very evil and what she does, she does for Chloe when really everything that she did was for herself.

The title "Run" is ironic. It suggests that escape can be difficult for a young woman who is confined to a wheelchair. It's suggests that the word "overprotective" can be a synonym for abuse.

Whereas Searching was tense murder mystery told through computer screens that keeps you guessing till the very end, Run is a routine thriller once the ruse is up. Chloe gets out of her mother's grasp by using her independence, when she's trapped in her room, she used her arms and brains to get out of every obstacle, even swallowing gasoline to escape her home.

I highly recommend that you watch this, because again, I didn't think it was going to be really really good and that you go into it with an open mind.

I'll give it a 5/5!
