Best TV Shows of 2020

Hi, Everybody! Since that the New Year is literally in 2 days, I'm going to be talking about the TV Shows that came out this year and that have got us through this disastrous year. Animated Shows are not included because there were just so many to choose from despite how awesome Rick & Morty: Season 4 pt 2 was and how great Solar Opposites, The Owl House and Bojack Horseman: Season 7 were.

10. The Undoing

Guys, I've watched this mini-series in 2 days and it's one of my latest obsessions! In this HBO limited series, Nicole Kidman plays a therapist whose life is turned upside when her husband is arrested and responsible for someone's murder. Who's the body you ask? Well...  the husband played by Hugh Grant is a pediatrician and he had an affair with one of the kids' mother(the corpse). It's only 6 episodes and you'll likely be finished in a day. Not only does it have great performances, including Nicole Kidman, her hairstyle and her fashion choices, it'll leave you guessing until the very end.

9. The Last Dance

This Michael Jordan docs-series from ESPN is something that we all needed this year. With only 10 episodes, it explores Jordan's historic Basketball career both on and off the court. Through interviews it gives an in-depth look in the dynamic between Jordan's teammates, coaches and the game that he loves. It touched upon Jordan's retirement and stories that you've never even heard about like Dennis Rodman's Vegas vacation and the footage will catch you off guard.

8. Tiger King

Here's another docu-series that got us through 2020. This is the Netflix docs-series that broke the internet. This True Crime doc is details the life of Joe Exotic, the owner of G.W. Zoo and his feud with Carole Baskin, the owner of Big Cat Rescue. The series explores the deeply interconnected society of exotic cat conservationists and collectors in America, and the private zoos and sanctuaries they set up, it also covers the disappearance of Carole's husband, Don Lewis. With each episode you will be both shocked and awed from this footage.

7. Outer Banks

Outer Banks was THE show that got us through 2020. It follows a group of teenagers called "Pogues" who are determined to find out what happened to John B.'s father. Along the way, they discover a legendary treasure. Chased by both the law and the wealthy and upperclass group called the "Kooks", the Pogues seek to overcome many obstacles to reach the goal that John Routtledge has been working for 20 years. John. B, Sarah Cameron, Kie, Pope and JJ are instant fan favorites and was filled with memorable moments. Can't wait for Season 2!

6. Schitt'$ Creek: Season 6

The final season of this hit Canadian comedy TV show did not disappoint! The Roses, Moira, Johnny, David and Alexis were wonderful and memorable characters. It swept the Emmys in every comedy category this year marking it one of the most historic comedies of this generation. We all needed a TV Show like Schitt's Creek and I can't imagine a world without them.

5. The Queen's Gambit

This was the most watched miniseries on Netflix last month! Based on Walter Tevis' novel of the same name, it follows the story of Beth Harmon, a chess prodigy who overcame the odds by becoming the world's greatest chess player. Not only did Netflix viewers love it, but the chess community praised it for the acting, particularly Anya Taylor-Joy's performance, the fashion, production design and the accuracy of the game of Chess.

4. I May Destroy You

It's not surprising that many shows have recently talked about sexual assault and consent because of the current political climate. This British comedy-drama is grounded in realism due to the fact that Michaela Coel's character doesn't remember what happened to her leaving viewers, like myself in the dark. It was created, executive produced and written by Michaela Coel, who previously gave us Chewing Gum. Surprisingly shocking, very uncomfortable and darkly humorous, I May Destroy You is definitely one of the most memorable shows of this year.

3. The Mandalorian: Season 2

One of the biggest and most popular shows ever came back this year with a sophomore season! Mando and Baby Yoda have once again graced our screens and continue their journey to return the little guy back to where he came from. It had many character moments like the return of the fan favorite, Boba Fett who was thought to be presumed dead in Return of the Jedi, which was wayy back in 1983, Timothy Olyphant in the first episode, Katie Sackhoff reprising her role as Bo Kotan and the long-awaited arrival of Ahsoka Tano in Live-Action! If there's one moment that stands out in the entire show, it's the bond between Mando and Baby Yoda.

2. The Boys: Season 2

The first season of the hit dark comedy superhero show was a fantastic binge session and Season 2 took everything from the first season that made it great and turned the show into something even better. It made fun of every Superhero movie cliche, every episode was fantastic, "The Boys" had great character arcs, surprising twists and Stormfront was such a great villain! It all culminated in one of the best season finales I've ever seen! And kudos to Anthony Starr's performance because MY GOD!

Honorable Mentions:

- A Teacher

- Bridgerton

- Industry

- Grand Army

- The Crown: Season 4

- Normal People

- Elite: Season 3

- Ted Lasso

- His Dark Materials: Season 2

- Ozark: Season 3

- Sex Education: Season 2

1. Lovecraft Country

This year, the Black Lives Matter movement has become a talking point and has been on the rise since the deaths of Breonna Taylor and George Floyd. HBO has released a brand new horror show set in 1950s Jim Crow America. Jonathan Majors plays Atticus Freeman, as he joins Letitia Lewis and his Uncle George on a road trip across White America to overcome both the racist terrors and the terrifying monsters ripped out of a Lovecraft novel. JJ Abrams and Jordan Peele managed to balance both American racism and Supernatural elements and peels them back to show the problematic political problems reminiscent of the current era. Letitia going "Beyonce" on those cars was very memorable and amazing and it will go down to be an iconic moment in television history.
