Review: Venom: Let There Be Carnage

Hi, Everybody! I just saw the sequel to 2018's Venom, Venom: Let There Be Carnage!

Now, let there be SPOILERAGE! Sorry, couldn't help myself.

So, Venom 2 kinda picks up where the first film left off, with Eddie Brock doing a story on famed serial killer, Cletus Kasady, played by Woody Harrelson. After their third visit, Cletus bites into Eddie and contracts the alien symbiote and becomes Carnage. Cletus/Carnage then breaks out his girlfriend from an insane asylum, while both Eddie and Venom have well... personal issues. Venom wants to bite people's heads off while Eddie wants to live a normal life.

While the same Eddie/Venom comedic chemistry is still there, which I really love and don't mind, the same script problems from the first movie are prevalent. But, if you were to go into this movie to burn your brain off for an 1hr and a half and just go along for the ride, you'll definitely the sequel. Is it better than the first? Kind of. The scene that I loved was the Venom vs. Carnage fight and ofc, I'm going to talk about the post-credits scene, because, WOW! EVERYTHING is coming together, folks.

The movie felt veryy short. I mean, that it starts with the first act, then skips the mid part and then straight to the conclusion. I just kept thinking "Wait, is it about to be over, already?"

In the after-credits scene, when Eddie/Venom leave San Francisco to get away from the authorities, they stay in either Puerto Rico, Mexico, Cuba or Dominican Republic. So, yeah. Somewhere in Latin America. As they're staying in their hotel room, a bright light appears and the telenovela that they are both watching changes into the Daily Bugle with J.J. Jonah Jameson, played the LEGEND, J.K. Simmons, and see an unmasked Tom Holland's Spider-Man on TV. This means, that Venom has officially joined the MCU and that they both have transported from universe to another. It's arguably one of the best credits scenes ever and my heart's still raising after seeing that.

The action is pretty damn great, but I feel like the story didn't make sense at all, watch the Venom movies if you love the comic book character, Venom. And as for the character, Cletus Kasady, he's a BIG letdown, not even like his counterpart, there are only hand-drawn and admittedly beautiful and edgy animated effects of Cletus killing his grandma, mother and cat when he was only a boy in a very PG-13 rated sense. He's not as terrifying or creepy as his comic counterpart. I thought that we were past giving comic book movies an R-rating after Deadpool(2016) became a box office success! There's also another scene I like where Venom is at a rave and there were a lot of pretty colors to add into that, it was very cool.

I liked Venom 2, I just think that it could've had an R-rating with the inclusion of Carnage, story wasn't great, action was pretty awesome and the post-credits scene was definitely an incredible pay-off. I think Andy Serkis did his best with the sequel.

Now, the question remains, "Will Venom appear in Spider-Man: No Way Home?" Guess we'll have to wait a couple of months and find out.

I'm giving Venom: Let There Be Carnage a 6.5/10

Thanks for reading and don't forget to comment below if you've seen Venom 2? Did you like it? Did you dislike it? Let me know.
