Coffee & Kareem

Review: Coffee & Kareem

Santiago Brion

This movie isn't your average buddy movie. It's a no holds bar, excessively hilarious wild ride with so
much curse words that you can shake a stick at. I thought this child actor, Terrence Little Gardenhigh
was so funny, this kid has a bright future ahead of him and I can't wait to see what he does next. I also
really loved Ed Helms in this movie who was also funny and just because The Hangover is one of my
favorite movies of all time and Betty Gilpin was so over-the-top, it's the first time I've seen her in
anything. This is Michael Dowse's recent film after directing his previous film Stuber starring both
Kumail Nanjiani and Dave Bautista. Don't let the reviews fool you, this is pure popcorn
entertainment.

Coffee & Kareem is about a 12-year-old kid named Kareem who lives in Detroit with his mom who
plans to get Officer James Coffee, his mom's boyfriend, killed. When he asks Coffee to pick him up.
from school, he goes to convicted felon/Detroit MC, Orlando Johnson's hideout to ask him to do the
deed, he witnesses the murder of a dirty police officer and both Coffee & Kareem evade both the cops
and Orlando's guys, they both have to work together despite their differences. In the end, Kareem
sees Coffee as a father figure after learn to respect each other. I know that this sounds like a premise
to a crime thriller, but it's this an actual buddy action comedy starring both an adult and a kid which is
an odd pairing for sure, but it's worth watching considering our current situation that we are going
through. Since that all movie theaters are closed until "further notice" the venues will most likely
never recover. But thanks to the power of streaming services, we have original content that we can all
enjoy. So... I would give this movie 3 out of 5 stars.
