Best TV Shows made by Ryan Murphy

The Best TV shows made by Ryan Murphy

Hello, Everybody! I'm Santiago and this is my list of Televisions Shows that were made by successful TV Producer, Ryan Murphy. I'm doing something completely different by making blog posts about TV shows and possibly reviewing TV shows. I don't know I'll see what happens. Anyway, over the years, Ryan Murphy has made a lot of great shows over the years, most of them are LGBT-themed and since that Pride Month is now over, I'd like to discuss them. These are shows that are either Created or Executive Produced by Ryan Murphy.

10. Hollywood

The most recent one on this list, "Hollywood" takes place in post-World War II Los Angeles during a time when former soldiers started a new life with their spouse and what kick-started the Baby Boom generation. This Netflix miniseries follows the lives of the actors & filmmakers working during Hollywood's Golden Age and what the entertainment landscape might look like if they had been dismantled. While the writing and tone was off, it was really entertaining to watch these characters achieve their dream and I really loved the performances, particularly Laura Harrier as Camille Washington, Jeremy Pope as Archie Coleman and Jim Parsons as Henry Willson.

9. Scream Queens

Coming off the success of American Horror Story, Ryan Murphy created a Horror gem with a satirical edge with Scream Queens. Starring one of the modern Scream Queens, Emma Roberts, it follows a group of sorority girls at a fictional college called Wallace University and their house is plagued by a serial killer who dresses up in a red devil mascot suit as a disguise and its second season took place in a hospital lead by former University president, Cathy Munsch played the Scream Queen herself, Jamie Lee Curtis and her  and the Chanels took on a new serial killer called the Green Meanie. Although it was canceled after two seasons due to low ratings, it had a strong fan base. Now that Ryan Murphy has a long-term deal with Netflix, maybe he can revive the show with a new season. Let's hope.

8. 9-1-1

A reimagining of the police procedural drama. 9-1-1 explores the high-pressure experiences of first responders who are thrust into the most frightening, shocking and heart-stopping situations. These emergency responders must try to balance saving those who are at their most vulnerable with solving the problems in their own lives. The show draws from real-life, high-pressure experiences of first responders who regularly face heart-stopping situations that are often unpredictable, intense and uplifting at the same time. While the show is melodramatic, it has a great cast including Angela Bassett and Peter Krause and adrenaline-pumping action for your guilty pleasure viewing experience.

7. Nip/Tuck

While I'm not really into medical dramas, I can understand why people like them. Nip/Tuck is about two lifelong friends who perform surgeries in different ways. Christian is your typical playboy while Sean is a family man with a failed marriage. It does sound pretty grim but it's also darkly hilarious and it has pure campyness. Just watch for the performances of Julian McMahon and Dylan Walsh. Be warned, the surgery scenes are very graphic.

6. The Politician

Ryan Murphy's first show with Netflix, The Politician follows Payton Hobart, an ambitious young man with one goal in mind; to become The President of the United States. The first season followed him becoming the student body president of high school only to have it be ruined due to scandal. Season 2 recently came out, with Payton going up against an older NY senator played by Judith Light. Let me tell you, this show is something else. It's got whip-smart dialogue, a great performance from Ben Platt and full of satire. Yes, it is problematic, but what makes it stand out is that it's really BOLD.

5. Glee

Yeah, so I've never watched Glee and I think I never will but I can respect it. This show needs no introduction because I'm pretty sure everyone watched Glee during our pre-teens. It had a great cast including Lea Michele(racist bitch), Chris Colfer, Darren Criss, Jane Lynch, Matthew Morrison, the late Cory Monteith, Mark Salling(may you rot in hell, pervert), Kevin McHale, Jayma Mays, Amber Riley, Melissa Benoist, Harry Shut, Jr., Dianna Agron, Jessalyn Gilsig, Heather Morris and Naya Rivera and the soundtrack is good too, from what I've heard about it.

4. Feud

Originally an FX anthology series, Feud's first season was about the legendary feud between Joan Crawford and Bette Davis played by Jessica Lange and Susan Sarandon respectively. In 1962, a classic movie called "What Happened to Baby Jane?" was released and was praised by critics, during filming both Bette & Joan had a rivalry that lasted well after the cameras stopped rolling. It recalls the two famous actresses during the twilight of their careers as they experienced ageism, sexism and misogyny. The second season was supposed to be about Charles & Princess Diana but it unfortunately got canceled. At this point, it's a miniseries but I do hope that a new season can come out pretty soon. I loved the performances from both Lange and Sarandon they really did disappear into the roles of these iconic actress and the production was really impressive.

3. American Crime Story

Like American Horror Story, American Crime Story is an anthology series that has a different story with. each season but what if instead instead of horror stories, there are true stories. The first season, People vs. OJ Simpson was fantastic! It won 4 Emmys including Oustanding Limited Series and 2 Golden Globes including Best Limited Series or Television Film. I really liked how the OJ murder trial was told and they handled it so well and I loved the performances of Cuba Gooding Jr. as OJ Simpson, Sarah Paulson as Marcia Clark, Courtney B. Vance as Johnnie Cochran, David Schwimmer as Robert Kardashian, Sterling K. Brown as Christopher Darden and John Travolta as Robert Shapiro. The second season, The Assassination of Gianni Versace was also amazing and that's due in large part to Darren Criss' magnetic performance as Andrew Cunanan. I really can't wait for Season 3, which will be about the Clinton-Lewinsky trial which led to Bill Clinton's impeachment from the presidential office.

2. Pose

Set in the 1980s, 'Pose' is a dance musical that explores the juxtaposition of several segments of life and society in New York: the ball culture world, the rise of the luxury Trump-era universe, and the downtown social and literary scene. Characters compete for trophies and recognition in the underground culture of the LGBT community. This show is heavily influenced by Paris is Burning, a documentary centering around the trans-community during the 80s while also expanding on its subtle themes. This is one Ryan Murphy's greatest shows ever! It's got so much energy, strong character development and so much style. With Season 2 upping the glamour and grittiness in the show with its latest season taking place during the AIDS crisis.

Honorable Mentions:

- 9-1-1: Lone Star

1. American Horror Story

This show is what peaked Ryan Murphy's successful career! AHS is an anthology series with each season with a different horror story. It had a successful debut season with murder house and its second season, Asylum is what truly made AHS a must-watch and it got better with each passing season. While it's later seasons (particularly Hotel, Roanoke and Cult) weren't that great, AHS shows no signs of slowing down and a lot of people will look back on how truly fantastic this show really is.
