Every Upcoming Video Game Movie (So Far)

Every Upcoming Video Game Movie (So Far):

Hello,  Everybody! Today, I made one big list of every Upcoming Video Game film adaption that is coming very soon! Most of these movies are now currently in development, so any rumored projects will not be included. Not only do I love movies, I also love video games. They're my first love, really. I used to have a Game Cube, a PSP and a DS and I currently have a Nintendo Switch and Xbox One. I'm soo looking forward to getting my hands on the PS5! Just look at the console! And the backyards compatibility?? MIND BLOWING.

- Monster Hunter

This one... I kind of have my doubts on. Monster Hunter is an action-fantasy RPG that takes of the Hunter,  and the core purpose of the game is to slay monsters, gather resources to craft new weapons and repeat. The film however, will focus on a military team that goes through a portal where monsters exist. I can already imagine the fan outrage. It isn't the first time that a video game was falsely adapted. Resident Evil, a survival horror game was adapted into a full-on action franchise!! It's no surprise that Paul W.S. Anderson is adapting another CAPCOM title into something completely different. But, who knows maybe it'll turn a profit?

- Mortal Kombat

It has been roughly been 20 years since the first live-action Mortal Kombat movie was released and with James Wan producing and Simon McQuoid as director to helm the reboot, an R-rating and the perfect cast to play the MK characters, this one will BE AMAZING!! I can't wait until January 15th, 2021!

- Tomb Raider 2

Honestly, the Tomb Raider reboot was very disappointing due to the fact that Alicia Vikander failed to bring gravitas to Lara Croft and that whole story of a world-ending disease in a coffin was well, idk... done before!  Do we need a sequel? Maybe? Ben Wheatley, who previously directed Free Fire and High-Rise will helm the sequel. I really hope that he repairs the damage that the reboot film had.

- Uncharted

This one has been in development hell for 10 years! It was originally to be inspired by Uncharted 2: Among Thieves(One of THE best video games of all time!) and with Mark Wahlberg playing Nathan Drake and David O. Russell directing, but then... many directors later, including Neil Burger, Dan Trachtenburg, Travis Knight and Shawn Levy and multiple release days later, it finally has Ruben Fleischer directing with Tom Holland playing the role of a young Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg playing the role of Victor Sullivan and it will take inspiration from Uncharted 4: A Thief's End. I'm kinda looking forward to this one just see Tom Holland rocking Nate's clothes. Even if Uncharted keeps getting delayed, Tom and Mark will be old enough to be Nathan Drake and Sully.

- Minecraft: The Movie

Another video game adaptation in development hell, a game with an objective to build whatever hell you want doesn't exactly sound like something for movie material. Shawn Levy was assigned to direct until creative differences caused him to drop out with Peter Sollett signed on to direct. It'll be about a teenage girl and a band of misfits as they try to save the world from a dragon. Yeah, I know not very "Minecraft" but Warner Bros. knocked it out of the park with The LEGO Movie, so I'm looking forward to how this'll play out.

- Pokemon: Detective Pikachu 2

The sequel to the hit Live-Action Pokemon film was announced shortly after the film's release, not much has been announced so far, only that Orien Uziel has been signed on to pen the script and that both Ryan Reynolds and Justice Smith are expected to return. Since that the pandemic has slowed down the production process, it won't be until next year when there will be more additional details regarding the sequel.

- Borderlands

It was only a matter of time until a Borderlands movie was announced. Cate Blanchett has been signed to play to Lilith with Eli Roth directing and Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford as Executive Producer and Chernobyl's Craig Mazin to write the script and it's expected to have an R-rating. Being released by Lionsgate, I hope that it'll have the same vibe as The Hunger Games, John Wick and The Expendables.

- Super Mario Bros.

An animated movie from Illumination Entertainment was announced as an adaptation of the beloved Nintendo giant that is Super Mario Bros. it's the perfect studio to bring the iconic world to life due to the success of the Despicable Me franchise. While not anything has been announced like a director or cast or when it will be released. All that is known is that Chris Meledandri and Mario creator, Shigeru Miyamoto are Executive Producing. I just hope that it won't be worse than that Live-Action movie. MY GOD, THAT MOVIE WAS REALLYY BAD!!! It can't be worse than that, right? RIGHT?!

- Mega Man

Another CAPCOM title, 20th Century Fox announced that they're adapting the iconic franchise and I lost it. I'm very excited! Peter Chernin will produce while Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman will direct. However, due to the Disney Acquisition of Fox, it's surprisingly still in development and nothing else has been announced yet, but both Joost and Schulman have said that they have big news coming "very soon". Wait, does that mean Mega Man is a Disney character?

- The Division

Tom Clancy's books have been adapted into many movies and The Division will ultimately be a surprisingly good time. Ubisoft and Netflix are teaming to bring this great game to life with Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain in starring roles and David Leitch as director. The movie will definitely take inspiration from both the first and second game.

- Metal Gear Solid

Sony and Konami are finally collaborating to work on a Metal Gear Solid movie with Jordan Vogt-Roberts(a fan of the games) as director. As of 2019, the writing draft has been completed and a rumor that Oscar Isaac is in talks to play Solid Snake. I really hope that's true!

- Resident Evil

A reboot of the Resident Evil franchise, this one will reportedly be a faithful adaptation of the games. Johannes Roberts has been signed on to direct and yes, it will be a horror movie instead of an over-the-top action movie and that it will be more faithful to the games. Brenton Thwaites and Kaya Scodelario are being eyed to play Chris and Claire Redfield while Harris Dickinson is being eyed to play Leon Kennedy.

- Just Cause

Square Enix is now currently adapting the popular action video game series, Just Cause with Michael Dowse as director. While both Stuber and Coffee & Kareem weren't exactly acclaimed, they were enjoyable and the Just Cause will definitely be just that.

- Sonic the Hedgehog 2

This year's Sonic the Hedgehog movie made over half-a-billion dollars so a sequel was inevitable. I honestly saw that coming due to the fact that Tales appeared at the end. Ben Schwartz, James Marsden and Jim Carrey are reprising their roles, Jeff Fowler will return as director and Tim Miller will return as Executive Producer and it will be released on April 8, 2022.

Thanks for reading and don't forget to comment below what video game movie you're excited for.
