Movies that were supposed to come out this year

Hello, Everybody! I'm Santiago Brion and today I did a list of movies that were supposed to be released in theaters this year. On March 2020, the world of cinema came to an unfortunate disappoint when CO-VID19 had entered U.S. Borders which led to many of the film's release dates being pushed back.

Okay, guys. Here's the list.

20. The King's Man

A prequel to the Kingsman movies, this movie takes place during WW1 and sees that one man must put a stop of to a bunch of evil masterminds from starting a war. It stars Ralph Fiennes, Harris Dickinson, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Gemma Arterton, Stanley Tucci, Daniel Brühl, Djimon Hounsou, Matthew Goode, Tom Hollander, Rhys Ifans and Charles Dance and it will see Matthew Vaughn in the director's chair once again. Originally scheduled for a February 14th, will now be released on February 12th, 2021.

19. Candyman

This isn't necessarily a remake, a sequel or a reboot but more of a quasi-sequel, meaning that this is a new take on the hit 90s horror flick and its terrifying short story by Clive Barker. Horror film legend Tony Todd will return as The Candyman, while recent Emmy-winner Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is in the starring role with Nia DaCosta as Director and Jordan Peele as Producer. Originally scheduled to be released in the summer of 2020, will now be released sometime next year. Hopefully by the end of the year, a new date will be announced.

18. Venom: Let There Be Carnage

After 2018's Venom became a financial success and an audience favorite, a sequel was inevitable. Originally to be released on October 2nd no less, the movie will now be released on June 25th, 2021 with Naomie Harris joining the cast as Shriek, Carnage's love interest and the King of Motion Capture, Andy Serkis is directing.

17. Raya and the Last Dragon

This upcoming Disney-animated feature film was announced back in d23 in 2019 with an original release date of November 25th, 2020 and will now be released on March 12th, 2021. It's the first Disney-animated film taking place in Southeast Asia and the story will be about a lone warrior who sets out to find the last dragon and save the kingdom of Kumandra. It stars Kelly Marie Tran and Awkwafina.

16. Jungle Cruise

The live-action Disney film has been in production for quite some time now and it seems like I was finally ready to experience it this summer, but... I guess I'll have to wait a bit longer. The movie stars Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt as a riverboat and scientist go on a journey to The Tree of Life while battling wild animals and a German expedition.

15. Top Gun: Maverick

I honestly didn't think that I needed a sequel to Top Gun and I couldn't be more excited for it. Tom Cruise returns as Maverick while new actors like Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman and Jake Picking have joined the sequel while Val Kilmer reprises his role as Iceman. Originally coming out on June 26th will now be released on July 2nd, 2021. Let's hope Joseph Kosinski keeps the Top Gun name alive.

14. No Time to Die

The next Bond movie has recently changed its release date to April 2nd, 2021. It'll now be 6 years since Spectre came out. 5 years after capturing Ernest Blofeld, Bond has left active service and is approached by Felix to look for a scientist only to be faced off with a villain unlike anything Bond has faced before. With Cary Fukanaga as director, this will definitely and hopefully be the best Bond movie since Skyfall.

13. Last Night in Soho

It's certainly unusual that Edgar Wright's next movie is a psychological horror movie since that he is known for directing fast-paced comedies, but this one will definitely be a surprise. The movie stars Anya Taylor-Joy as a young girl who mysteriously enters 1960s London, after encountering her idol, her time there comes with shady consequences. Originally supposed to released last week, will now come out on April 23rd, 2021.

12. Ghostbusters: Afterlife

Man, I was waiting to watch a new Ghostbusters movie this year, but then it just had to be pushed back! Finn Wolfhard and McKenna Grace play two children who visit their grandfather, Egon Spengler's hometown and discover his secret legacy. A third Ghostbusters film was in the works since 1989 and it's not exactly a sequel but more of a spiritual successor to the legendary franchise. It's directed by Ivan Reitman's son, Jason Reitman. Man, March 5th can't come soon enough.

11. Godzilla vs. Kong

The third movie in Legendary's MonsterVerse has experienced many release date changes and hopefully the May 21st date will stick. Millie Bobby Brown will reprise her role from King of the Monsters and Alexander Skarsgård's in the starring role. I'm just here for the monsters, man! BRING IT ON!!

10. In the Heights

Based on the groundbreaking musical from Lin-Manuel Miranda, the movie has experienced many delays, including being swapped for a Christmas Day 2019 release for Cats to take its place. If you ask me, it was a very poor decision on Hollywood's part. Anyway, it was supposed to be released in June 2020, but it will now be released on my birthday, which is June 18th. The story takes place in Washington Heights over the course of three days, involving characters in a Latino neighborhood. It stars Anthony Ramos, Corey Hawkins, Leslie Grace, Melissa Barrera, Olga Merediz, George Diaz IV, Stephanie Beatriz and Jimmy Smits and is directed by Crazy Rich Asians' Jon M. Chu.

9. Morbius

Bro, I was hyped to see Jared Leto as a frickin' vampire! For those of you who aren't familiar with one of Spider-Man's enemies, Dr. Michael Morbius is a scientist with a rare blood disease and attempts to cure himself with a form of vampirism and has a thirst for blood. Originally scheduled for a July 2020 release will now be released on March 19th, 2021.

8. Free Guy

Ok, ok, ok. Technically it is going to be released in a couple of months(might be jinxing it). I wouldn't put past 20th Century Studios to delay this action comedy again. The movie stars Ryan Reynolds as an NPC working as a bank teller in an open-world video game akin to Fortnite, PUBG and Grand Theft Auto. He becomes aware that he's in a video game and must race against the clock to save the game before developers shut it down.

7. Bob's Burgers: The Movie

The Belchers were originally going to the come to the big screen in the summer of 2020, but unfortunately I guess I'll have to wait a little longer until they get here. It will reportedly involve Louis in a fantasy world for a subplot, so I'm looking forward to that and Gene's antics.

6. F9

In a parallel world, the next movie in the Fast & Furious franchise dominated the summer box office. When I saw that trailer with John Cena being an absolute beast, I was hyped! And the return of Han just makes the movie even more anticipated. On May 28th, 2021, the movie will be released... hopefully. It'll be fine. I'm fine. Really.

5. The French Dispatch

Wes Anderson's next movie was originally going to be released on July 17th, but due to the pandemic, the movie had to be pushed back to an unknown date and it will unfortunately skip awards season. The movie has an all-star ensemble cast which consists of Benicio del Toro, Adrien Brody, Tilda Swinton, Frances McDormand, Léa Seydoux, Timothée Chalamet, Lyna Khoudri, Jeffrey Wright, Mathieu Almaric, Stephen Park, Bill Murray, Owen Wilson, Liev Schreiber, Elisabeth Moss, Edward Norton, Willem Dafoe, Saoirse Ronan, Christoph Waltz, Jason Schwartzman, Tony Revolori, Henry Winkler and Rupert Friend. I'm excited just because of this cast alone!

4. Halloween Kills

The sequel to Halloween 2018 will unfortunately not come out this month but next year. The movie will pick right where Laurie Strode, her daughter and granddaughter left off as they fight to stay alive and try to get away from Michael Myers. David Gordon Green will return to direct, Jamie Lee Curtis returns as Laurie Strode.

3. A Quiet Place: Part II

On the week that the A Quiet Place sequel was about to come out, it was pushed back at the eleventh hour and  it will now be released on April 23rd, 2021. John Kraskinski returns as director and hopefully it will live it up the hit sci-fi horror film.

2. Dune

GOD! I was ready for this movie! How could you release a trailer but then announce a month later that you're going to delay it by ONE YEAR?! Dune is based on Frank Herbert's legendary sci-fi novel of the same name and it will be a faithful adaptation. Hell, soo faithful that the movie is part of a 2-part saga. With the sequel reportedly already in pre-prododuction and with Denis Villeneuve as director and an all-star cast consisting of Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa, Dave Bautista and Rebecca Ferguson. This is going to be a cinematic spectacle for sure! October 1st 2021 can't get here. soon enough!

1. Black Widow & Eternals

It's hard to believe that it's been a year since both Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: Far from Home was released in theaters and the summer blockbuster buzz of 2020 was going to kick off with Black Widow. Unfortunately, it'll be a longer until I see Natasha Romanoff again in theaters. The fight between her and Taskmaster could not be even more anticipating. It will now be released on May 7th, 2021, making 2020 the only year since 2009 without an MCU movie. At least WandaVision is something to look forward to, right? The second movie in Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Eternals will follow a group of all-powerful beings created by Celestials 7,000 years ago must reunite to protect humanity from The Deviants. The cast includes Richard Madden, Gemma Chan, Kumail Nanjiani, Lauren Ridloff, Brian Tyree Henry, Salma Hayek, Lia McHugh, Don Lee, Barry Keoghan, Angelina Jolie and Kit Harrington. Originally scheduled for a November 2020 release, will now be released on November 5th, 2021.

And that's my list, guys. Let me know in the comments what movie you were looking forward to see in theaters this year.

PEACE OUT.✌🏻
