Review: Soul

Hello, Everybody! Today I'm going to talk about the new Pixar movie, Soul! Released on Disney+. It's rare that a major animated film releases on a streaming service especially a movie like Soul. This is the story of a black man living in New York City named Joe Gardner, who is a middle school band teacher who has a passion for jazz and he's very good at it and when gets the gig of a lifetime, he ends up in another realm to help someone find their passion, he soon discovers what it truly means to have soul. It stars Jamie Foxx, Tina Fey, Angela Bassett, Questlove, Phylicia Rashad, Richard Ayoade, David Diggs, Rachel House, Alice Braga and Graham Norton and is directed by Pete Doctor alongside Kemp Powers who made Monsters, Inc., Up and Inside Out.

This year, Pixar released two films, Onward was the story of two elf brothers who go on a quest to bring back their dad for one day and both movies touch upon life, death and makes us human. It's also very much like Coco, whereas both movies deal with death and the protagonist goes to another realm and learn to appreciate life, with one contrast being that in Coco, Miguel looks for his distant relative in the land of the dead during Dia de los Muertos and Joe helps someone find their passion and a reason to live on Earth and you can tell that Docter took his ideas from Inside Out, in which Inside Out had an inventive approach and exploration in the human mind and Docter goes into very deep places in Soul.

Soul reminds us all to enjoy the little things in life, like Pizza.

Disney Pixar's Soul is a must-see masterpiece that you need to watch before the end of the year! It truly had great and beautiful moments like Joe's mother finally accepting his passion for Jazz while Joe's own soul is watching, there's also Rachel House as Terry, who is a frequent collaborator in Taika Waititi's movies is one of the film's comedic reliefs, the cutaway scenes involving 22 mentors which include Abraham Lincoln, Marie Antoinette and Mother Teresa just to name a few and the Barbershop scene, one of the greatest and most underrated scenes in Pixar history. In the African American community, Barbershops are a sacred place where they have conversations and talk about life, which is beautiful for a movie about a Black man appreciating... well, life. The fact that this scene is where the main characters learn a valuable lesson is GENIUS! There's also Dorothea Williams, who is a damn good saxophone player!

Not only is Soul an achievement in Animation on a technical level but an achievement in storytelling. Pixar took the idea of life and purpose and purpose on earth and even the boring things in life and turned it something so beautiful. Never take your life your life for granted because you never when you'll lose it.

And after the movie ends, you'll see life in a whole new way.

Thank you for reading and drop your thoughts down below.

Oh, and be sure to stay tuned for my Pixar Ranked list!
