Review: The Mitchells vs. The Machines

Hey, Everybody! The new Sony Animation movie The Mitchells vs. The Machines, formerly known as Connected, came out during the weekend and I finally got to watch it yesterday.

The Mitchells vs. Machines is the story of an 18-year-old girl who gets ready to leave for college but she and her family are caught up in a robopocalypse and it's up to the Mitchells to save the world.

The movie stars Abbi Jacobson, Danny McBride, Maya Rudolph, Mike Rianda, Doug the Pug, Eric Andre, Fred Armisen, Chrissy Teigen, John Legend, Beck Bennett, Charlene Yi, Sasheer Zamata, Blake Griffin, Conan O'Brien and Olivia Colman. It's written and directed by Mike Rianda, who voices Aaron Mitchell, and is produced by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.

Following the success of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, the next animated film from Sony needed to be just as amazing as that movie. Mitchells v. Machines delivered on all fronts with story, animation and humor. You can always Lord and Miller to deliver great movies! Each animated movie had a different style, we see Lego figures come to life, an actual moving comic book and what I can describe in Mitchells v. Machines as a movement of drawn graphics, pushing the boundaries of what animation can be.

This is a very different animated comedy movie where it takes place in the real world with technology and the bonds of family being key themes in the film. It's great how far SPA has come since Open Season and after the disaster that was The Emoji Movie, the studio has risen from the ashes by releasing Spider-Verse earning it an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and Mitchells v. Machines is considered the perfect follow-up to an amazing coming-of-age film.

If Olivia Colman can play strong female characters, she definitely nailed it as an evil AI. Doug the Pug is now one of my fav actors now, he was great and so cute as Monchi!

I'm going to give this a...

10/10

Everything about The Mitchells vs. The Machines is excellent! The animation, humor, themes and story is so perfectly well-done.
