Most Anticipated Movies of 2022:

Greetings. As we approach the Thursday month of 2021 and that it'll be 2 years since 2020, I think it's time to show off the upcoming and most hyped films of next year. It's high time that I get talk about these movie and how excited I am for them! These are ranked based on the level of buzz and excitement that I have for them. Let me know what movie you're most excited about in the comments!

20. Scream 5

While it is titled Scream, I'm calling it Scream 5 because this is actually a sequel to Scream 4! Scream 5 will see the return of Sidney Prescott, Sheriff Dewey and Gale Weathers, and Marley Shelton returns as Judy Hicks from Scream 4. The plot will revolve around a young woman who returns to her hometown, only to encounter the Ghostface Killer while encountering horrific murder cases. Only time will tell how Sidney, Dewey and Gale fit into the sequel. While this franchise is unfortunately not the same without Wes Craven, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of Ready or Not fame are directors. I have high hopes for this one when it comes out on January 2022.

Release Date: January 7, 2022

19. Babylon

This is an upcoming period drama film set during the Golden Age of Hollywood from Academy Award winning director, Damien Chazelle. While plot details are kept under wraps, I hope that Damien can follow up his Neil Armstrong biopic, First Man and his Netflix mini-series, The Eddy with this movie. The all-star cast is promising with Tobey Maguire going back to acting by having a supporting role, and that it stars Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie, with Samara Weaving, Olivia Wilde and Jean Smart in other supporting roles. I'm always excited for something new from Damien Chazelle.

Release Date: December 25, 2022

18. I Wanna Dance With Somebody

This movie will tell the heartbreaking and dramatized life of R&B legend Whitney Houston. The film is directed by Stella Meghie, who did the romantic comedy, The Photograph. Naomi Ackie of The End of the F**king World and Master of None fame is playing Whitney, and I do hope to see this promising star kill it on the big screen! J. Hud is playing Aretha and now Naomi is Whitney. I love it.

Release Date: December 25, 2022

17. Creed III

the third Creed film and the ninth installment of the Rocky franchise will see the directorial debut of Michael B. Jordan. Sylvester Stallone also directed three of the Rocky movies. While there is no plot as of yet, Creed III might be shaking up to be Adonis' most difficult fight of his life as he prepares to fight Jonathan Major's character and raises his child, while Rocky Balboa is unfortunately not in the movie since that Sly has now retired his iconic character. It'll be interesting to see how Donnie will continue his boxing training without Rocky but seeing Killmonger fight Kang is going to be something great!

Release Date: November 23, 2022

16. Super Mario

You're probably thinking, "Wait. A Mario movie? How's that going to work? They've done it already but it failed." This time, the film is animated by none other than Illumination Entertainment who have given us Despicable Me, Sing and The Secret Life of Pets. No plot, cast or directer has been announced yet, but Shigeru Miyamoto and Chris Melandri are executive producers. If there's anything that you can be excited about it's that it'll be unlike any video game movie before it and that it can tell a fresh story or stories within the Mushroom Kingdom.

Release Date: September 2022

15. Bullet Train

Following up Deadpool 2 and Hobbs & Shaw, David Leitch's Bullet Train is an action thriller with an incredible all-star cast about 5 assassins who find themselves on a Japanese bullet train, realizing that their assignments are connected. The cast includes Brad Pitt, Joey King, Andrew Koji, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry, Zazie Beetz, Michael Shannon, Lady Gaga, Logan Lerman, Hiroyuki Sanada, Bad Bunny and Sandra Bullock. Just from that cast alone just gets me excited!

Release Date: April 8, 2022

14. Uncharted

Ok, the underwhelming production problems of this movie like directors dropping out, release date changes, and COVID, the Uncharted movie might've seemed like it was doomed to fail until now. The film has been getting back on track and is now off to a great start with Tom Holland playing the role of Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg playing Sully respectively. I swear if Sully doesn't have a mustache, I will flip a table. With Ruben Fleischer as director, this might be a thrilling experience to witness in theaters.

Release Date: February 18, 2022

13. Disappointment Blvd.

Ari Aster has now become one of the most respectable filmmakers in horror and his next film is described as a nightmare comedy with the movie, Disappointment Blvd. starring Joaquin Phoenix. According to a recent photo during filming, Joaquin seems to be playing an aging man who is a entrepreneur and is described as an intimate portrait of his character.

Release Date: TBA 2022

12. NOPE

With Get Out and Us having universal acclaim, Jordan Peele has become an amazing directing talent in horror. I don't even what this movie is about other than that the poster has a cloud with a kite tail thing and is hovering over a small town. It stars Academy Award winner Daniel Kaluuya, Steven Yeun and Keke Palmer. If I ever saw something ominous I would say "NOPE". This movie is going to have social commentary written all over it.

Release Date: July 22, 2022

11. Lightyear

While Turning Red is going to be another Pixar classic, I hope. But what I'm mostly interested in is the origin story of the Buzz Lightyear action figure with "Lightyear". Chris Evans will voice the human character based on Buzz. Lightyear is directed by Angus MacLane, who co-directed Finding Dory and was a storyboard artist for WALL-E. I'm really excited for the space adventures of Human Buzz.

Release Date: June 17, 2022

10. The Northman

Robert Eggers is another talented director who's third film is coming in 2022. The Northman is an epic historical drama set during the age of the vikings, telling the revenge tale of Prince Amleth, played by Alexander Skarsgård, seeking justice for his father's death. The film is co-written by Icelandic novelist and poet, Sjón. I hope this movie will excel the masterpiece that was The Lighthouse.

Release Date: April 8, 2022

9. Mission:Impossible 7

This movie needs to go to great lengths to exceed Fallout, being that it is the best movie of the franchise and the top grossing film in the series. Christopher McQuarrie is back once again as director and Rebecca Ferguson and Vanessa Kirby return, while Henry Czerny will return as Eugene Kittridge, the original director of IMF. Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, Indira Varma, Cary Elwes and Esai Morales are going to be in it, with Morales playing the villain. If there's one thing that I'm looking forward to is, Ethan Hunt's next stunt which is riding on a motorcycle over a cliff!

Release Date: May 27, 2022

8. Black Adam

Dwayne Johnson has been announced as Black Adam since... forever! And he's finally getting his movie next year! This DC Comics character is the arch nemesis of Billy Watson/Shazam and this is his origin story. For 5,000 years, Black Adam has been imprisoned in Kahndaq and has now been unleashed and the Justice Society of America must stop him. This will be unlike anything that The Rock has ever done.

Release Date: July 29, 2022

7. Jurassic World: Dominion

Jurassic Park sequels have been... meh. The Lost World is ok for the presence of Ian Malcolm, while Jurassic Park III didn't have the same thrills as the first movie and it wasn't even directed by Steven Spielberg. The Jurassic Park franchise was revived with 2015's Jurassic World which became a huge summer blockbuster. Dominion might set up to right Fallen Kingdom's wrongs with Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum back together for the first time since 1993. From what I saw from the IMAX footage, it looks like that it's going to be a very gorgeous movie.

6. The Flash

The Marvel Cinematic Universe isn't the only one that's delving into the Multiverse. The long-awaited Flash movie is finally being made by 'It' director, Andy Muschietti. In the movie, Barry Allen travels to different universes within the speed force encountering Michael Keaton's Batman and Supergirl and quite possibly CW & Arrowverse Barry Allen/Flash. While both of these Flashes shared the screen during the TV crossover event, Crisis on Infinite Earths, The Flash is going to shape up to change the DC Extended Universe forever.

Release Date: November 4, 2022

5. Thor: Love and Thunder

Taika Waititi is back in the director's chair for another adventure with Thor, and this time he's with the Guardians of the Galaxy. Christian Bale is playing the movie's villain, Gorr the God Butcher, while Natalie Portman is set to reprise her role as Jane Foster, but now holds the power of Mjolnier, meaning that she could be a variant of Jane. It's also teased that Nebula is going to be "bonkers", meaning that this movie is going to be funnier than Ragnarok and Taiki even said that it's going to be "batshit crazy". I CAN'T WAIT!

Release Date: May 6, 2022

4. John Wick: Chapter 4

After that cliffhanger ending in Chapter 3, I needed Chapter 4! Just as when you thought that John's story would be over, Chapter 5 also got confirmed, and that Keanu Reeves might even play this badass hitman until he's 70! Hiroyuki Sanada, Rina Sawayama, Donnie Yen, Bill Skarsgård and Scott Adkins are set to have supporting roles. I'm ready for more Gun-fu!

Release Date: May 27, 2022

3. Spider-Man into the Spider-Verse 2

Spider-Verse got near perfect universal acclaim that a sequel was greenlit. Its post-credits scene even teased the appearance of Oscar Isaac's Miguel O'Hara, which could mean that he'll have a more prominent role in Spider-Verse 2. The film will be directed by Joaquin Dos Santos and Kemp Powers and Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are back as executive producers. Issa Rae is set to voice Jessie Drew/Spider-Woman while Jake Johnson is back as Peter B. Parker. Spider-Verse 2 is going to be VERY cultured!

Release Date: October 7, 2022

2. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse

During the season finale of the first season of Loki, the multiverse had finally began and has now changed the MCU forever. After Doctor Strange deals with other variants from Spider-Man's worlds, Strange has to enter this Multiverse of Madness to fix it and to stop Wanda from causing her chaos magic. Sam Raimi is set to direct the sequel, meaning that he'll add horror elements in this movie, which is a good change of pace.

Release Date: April 22, 2022

1. The Batman

Matt Reeves' fresh take on Batman is what I'm hyped the most about! From that trailer alone, it looks like that Robert Pattinson's Batman is going to excel every interpretation that came before it. With Greg Fraiser's cinematography, eerie and edgy score, and grim tone, The Batman is going to be the best Batman movie since The Dark Knight. I'm always excited for a new Batman movie, and it's going to hit me very hard. I see this getting the Oscar treatment.

Release Date: March 4, 2022
